Well, I enjoyed it...

I can just about remember the first programs... Can't say I've watched everyone in between but was pleased I made the effort and watched last nights... Still, more or less, follows the original formula that made the programs watchable in the first place with fairly minimal updating... Well done to the Beeb...

geek alert......geek alert .....exterminate.......exterminate.

I was 15 when it started and the kids hated it so it more or less passed me by.
Grand little money earner for the BEEB though.

I love anything to do with the Paradox of time...........the beeb used up their full quota of creative licence on this one though leaving gaps big enough a planet could fit:whistle:

Flipside of Dominic Hyde anyone?

I don't understand how anyone over the age of 13 can watch this tripe.

Oh i don't no Pin-seeker, each to their own.
I think Dr. Who is the sort of harmless family entertainment we do very well in this country.
Not overly violent, no blood and guts, a few healthy shocks and most important of all, as far as pre pubescent boys are concerned, non of that snogging malarky. :o
I thought last nights offering was pretty good, and opens up a whole new possible quest for the new Dr. I just hope he can keep his language in check, being pre watershed and all.
It was good to see Tom Baker again also. He was "my" Dr.

Fair enough,it just looks like terrible acting & cheesey special effects to me.
But I love The Walking Dead so hey ho.

That's not even in the same dimension as Dr Who! I had to stop watching the WD as it's turned into mindless blood and guts with no story substance anymore, pity.

I like The Walking Dead too, although i'am finding this season a bit slow tbh.
Mind you, whats his face is back this week, so things might perk up a bit.
Its not exactly "family" viewing though. :p

Thought the Dr Who writing was very clever, its opened up a whole new galaxy of storylines for the new Dr to take forward.
Never been a fan of Matt Smith, but thought he worked very well with David Tennant, and John Hurt was brilliant .

Be interesting to see what Peter Capaldi can bring to the role

I was bought up on Jon Pertwee so have seen a few doctors in my time :)

You should have watched some of the early series for that, whole sets used to wobble!

I remember the yetis in the undergound being a dodgy creation.
And mustn't forget that classic monster; a big grub which was an extra wrapped in bubble wrap fidgeting along the ground, great stuff!

i so hope so!

Abusing alien life forms seems only natural.

I got called a geek by my mates for watching and enjoying it. So I asked them what they watched and when they said X Factor I said I'd rather be a geek than a chav. ;)

Thought it was pretty good - though a bit convoluted (which is OK is that is time and space travel after all) and a bit contrived (less good). But I enjoyed the humour and Hurt was good. Didn't quite sort our what Rose was supposed to be doing - but I watched rather than tried to understand too deeply.

I liked the idea that aliens could be present in a painting from the past in the guise/form of the real subject being painted - then use that painting as a portal to the future by 'extracting themselves from the painting.

Really enjoyed it. It's one of the few programmes that myself and the family can sit and watch without being patronised/insulted/pestered for money etc etc etc. Can't wait for Christmas day. Me and the boy sat on the couch watching Dr Who whilst the rest of the family sleep off the wine in the front room. Perfect family entertainment..

I agree with this comment totally. Whilst I do not have kids myself, I do fondly remember as a kid sitting down for 'event TV', that one program what everyone sat down to watch be it Morecombe and Wise at Xmas, Doctor Who or, going back a long way, the Xmas day film. There is not enough of that anymore, scheduling that the whole family can enjoy together and Dr Who fills that gap nicely. I look forward to sitting down at my Brother's house on Xmas day and watching Dr Who with my little nephew (unless it features Daleks or Weeping Angels then he may well be behind the sofa).

As for the 50th anniversary, I really enjoyed it. Enough in there for the fan who has been watching for years without it being so involved in the past that those who have only picked the series up recently missed the point.

Although I think the more recent efforts for the story writing and production deserve a lot a credit, I do think that for what should be a children's programme, it's getting a bit too complex. I had to pause the viewing a few times to explain to my 10 year old (Dr Who fan) daughter what was going on.

I agree with that. Also interesting to see how an older Doctor goes down with the younger viewers. The recent selections have certainly seemed more geared to a younger audience.
