Played in the medal last night. Got to the club and saw my hca was still 3, but I know it's 4 - one round missing.

So, entered comp and marked 3 on my card.

When that comp gets put in the system today, the usual thing is to accept all away scores first (which will bump me up)

Do I then get dqd for putting incorrect hcap on my card?

No it shouldn't be a DQ

Happens regulary at our place and the HC automatically adjusts when closing the scores but no DQ for put your previous HC on

Ok cheers.

2nd part - will last nights score be calculated off "new" hcap if the away scores are accepted first?

For the purpose of results the score should be calculated against the handicap you put on the card. Whether this happens in practice at your (or any other) club will depend on processes!

For the purposes of handicapping, the process will work as Rulefan outlined ie chronologically based on what should have been.

What kind of justification could a club use for not using the number on the card? (if lower)

Thanks for replies.

It seems such an arse of a system. Is it just down to having a number of software providers that score aren't automatically accepted?

Absolutely no justification.

However few have the ability for the player to override the system handicap when entering scores and some won't look at the card to see the handicap, or read the note the player makes on it, before closing the competition - if you wish to make a small wager that it couldn't happen ever I would be more than happy to accept it!
The most common process seems to be to sort out the best scores (some routinely check all scores that beat buffer, some the prize winners etc).
Finally they are then reticent to re-open the comp to make an irrelevant (to prizes and handicapping ) change.

Should it happen - no.
Could it happen - yes.

Our computer system has the option to change your handicap when you sign in for a comp. that way you can amend it if an away score hasn't been processed yet.
