If a club plays medals with only three players. in this particular instance two players are behind the three ball with another 2 behind them. Play is obviously slow so the two behind the three ball invite the other two to join them as a fourball. Could they be disqualified as a result?

The two players behind the three ball playing the medal, and the two behind them again, are not in the three man competition. So why would they be dq from a competition they arent plaing in ?

This is what I thought as well. I think the OP meant that the way the club organises the medal is that they send out groups in 3s. In this hypothetical scenario, 7 people are playing, so they're split 3, 2 and 2. By the time they get back in, they are split 3 and 4. Do the 4 get DQed?

No.

I think we have a bit of confusion with terminology. I take this to mean the club plays medals as three balls - as we do. Not that the medal only had 3 entrants

Apologies for the terminology Yes the club plays medals as three balls What is your opinion of the the two balls that joined together to make a four ball being disqualified ?

Might depend on why those two groups were playing as 2-ball groups in the first place
Kinda need the background info

What would happen if one of one of the two balls withdrew through injury, and the remaining three players made a thr eeball. Get the injured player to sign the card, and then pass it on to another player who will sign for the remaining scores.

Absolutely no need to be DQ'ing anybody.

Likely to happen a lot in winter, someone not turning up because of the weather. Club/comp secretary being very picky if someone has been DQd for this, especially if it was because of slow play ahead.

There's perhaps a bit more to know about this...... eg. did the 4 ball then fall back & then cause a Pace-of-play problem? ........ as you've then possibly got a field of 2 balls, 3 balls & now self formed 4 balls....... I think most Clubs would want to stop this happening so may decide the DQ sends a strong message.

We had to introduce a Local Rule in our Players Charter DQing any 4 ball in a Sunday comp, as a notoriously slow 4 ball used to tee off early, holding the whole field up. It has been used once.

How are they holding up play when there is only them and the 3 ball?

My home club has this regularly, the last 4 are either two x twos, or a 3 & a 1, up[ to them whether they want to play in two pairs, or a 4.

I know at one time we had in in our terms of the competition that if the comp was a 3 ball comp the players were not allowed to play in 4s. We had quite a few instances of a single player ( (not playing the comp) joining the 3 ball just to get a game which slowed up the field behind.

DQ I'm afraid unless the committee have approved the change in the make-up of the groups. Rule 5.4b
The rule says that the player must remain in the same group. They have done that, others have joined but the original 2 are still in the group together is one way to look at it?

Thanks everyone who replied to my previous message re DQ There was nothing in the club rules and it was rescinded. and one of the guys who joined up to make the fourball shot 75 gross net 65 and won the competition !!!
