Any tips for helping my daughter start her downswing, shes a 28 handicap & really struggles to do the lateral move or doesnt understand how to do it, im almost 100% certain she starts it with her arms starting dropping down in front of her body, she was on for her best round ever today after 9 holes & was hitting great then bang she blew up big time, knocking it right, left, along the ground, no amount of me telling her how well she'd down till then prevented a tiger style tantrum lol, i've tried pushing off the right foot, bumping the hips but nothing works, im sure if she can find away of doing it in simple terms it will help loads, is there a way of doing it with the arms.

I'm all for keeping it simple - the golf swing from start (address of the ball about to start the back swing) to the finish position (standing tall looking for your ball, left foot still planted if you are right handed) takes less than a second.

Thinking about what starts the downswing is getting over complicate IMHO. The backswing and the finish position are the keys and making a fluid movement in between these 2 positions.

Don't try to hit at the ball either, that means you are trying too hard. Instead make a fluid (and fast if you can) swing and just let the ball be in the way.

Evening Gubog,
This may workn i saw it in a magazine i have.......When she is about to start her backswing get her to lift her right foot off the ground (if shes right handed) and as shes about to start the downswing get her to plant that foot back on the ground it'll get her shifting the weight to the right side which may help her with the movement of her hips when she gets used to the feeling......

:D

Leonard Nimoy might call that illogical.

Better to get her to understand where she should be at the end of the swing, you can't get there staying on the back foot.

had a swing lesson last night, my pro went back to basics; fix the grip (rolling my right hand under), fix the set up (hooding the club head), then simplify the swing - arms start back, take the shoulders which take the hips then reverse, hips, shoulders, arms.
