When I see golfers posting about about 'doubles' matches it makes my toes curl.

Am I the only one?

THERE IS NO GAME IN GOLF CALLED DOUBLES.

We have foursomes, greensomes, mixed fioursomes and even 4BBB.

I have to confess to thinking, "doubles is for darts and tennis!" whenever I hear it. However, it doesn't wind me up too much.

Which, for those who know me, will come as a surprise, given that almost EVERYTHING winds me up these days!

Now, had you said you hate it when people use "less" when they should use "fewer", then I'd be with you, lining them up against the blooming wall!

doubles in golf - nah - you're right Doon - irks. Just get it right - as easy as getting it wrong.

Oh yes there is. It's a well known format that we play where we all play off scratch and anyone that gets a par has to neck a double vodka. It's a great way of levelling the playing field as the good golfers are wasted after 9 holes and then the back 9 is far more evenly matched as the rubbish players are usually still sober.

I get wound up when people say "gone" when they mean "went" and "went" when they mean "gone"

I don't play doubles, pairs or better ball. True, Hawkeye and I turn up at the same time but neither of us manage to support the other and we "ham and egg" once a round at best. When we both fail to arrive with our golf game it isn't pretty. If we ever clicked though we have a scary score in there. I have a feeling it's coming too
