Double hit in Matchplay

In matchplay is a double hit loss of hole or just 1 shot penalty?

This happened in a matchplay yesterday and it was agreed that it was loss of hole, Im not sure this is correct but cant find a definitive answer, thanks.

Id be surprsied if it were loss of hole, seeing as its just the one shot penalty.

Seems pretty clear to me! It counts as two strokes. Doesn't mention type of play so applies to ALL types of play.

You need to be careful if you think of it like this. If you managed to strike the ball three times during a single swing, then it's still a stroke plus one penalty (i.e. two) . Yes, I've seen it done.

I think it's better to think of it as a stroke plus a penalty stroke.

Wasnt me, a match at Bognor yesterday and the player claimed the hole and went on to win @ 17th, the other player would of won the hole even with penalty!

This happened in my scratch match last weekend. Oppo hit ball twice in the bunker and immediately declared it. I knew it was an extra shot added but wasn't 100% if it was loss of hole.
Checked the rule book and sure enough, it was just a penalty, not loss of hole.
