Does your club allow guests to play in their competitions?

I suspect the answer is no for the large majority of golf clubs, but one thing my club allows guests to do is enter competitions as an 'Away' player.

The are not allowed to win the trophy obviously, but i think its a really cool idea.

I am also aware that Saunton allows visitors to do it as well! turn up pay the fee (plus a discounted green fee) and away you go....

Certainly not allowed at Sand Moor. On the face of it, I don't like the idea.

I assume they can't win the trophy but can win the money?

No - surprised any club would think of it unless struggling to fill the comp

why?

My old club has a open every Friday. I've collected the visitor prize twice out of the last three times.

Feel a little guilty but hey Ho, that's what I am.

Because it increases revenue into the club, has no detriment to the competition as they must have fully active handicaps and provide their CDH number.

In the case of Saunton, they have probably realised that they are in a tourist area so the oppotunity for people to play in a competitive manner is a good one. especially if like me, social golf isnt really your bag.

It is different though, it is a bandit from somewhere else.

the more i think about it i am not 100% sure they can win the cash. It would be more for handicapping purposes. However, they can 100% enter.

My view on it is that its another example of my club being forward thinking. i am sure if it started to get out of control they would look to amend it, but if it means my dad/friends that live 2hrs away can come and play golf with me at the weekend adhoc i am all for it.

Pretty sure I can play at my brothers place too. You can't lift the main prize, only visitors prize.

I dont see a problem.

'Away' just means someone who is a member, but not using our club as his 'home' club. Last years club championship was won by an away player.

That's the rules at ours, anyway.

I thought the "away" player was a player that was a member but it was not their main club
so a second membership.
Probably wrong though.
