I was playing at Abergele last Thursday.

Hit my second shot into the 9th and felt a pain in my elbow that felt like I'd been shot.

The bulk of the discomfort seems to be right on the elbow point (the funny bone) and its a little bit tender on the underside of my arm.

Does this sound like golfers elbow?

If not, anyone done anything similar and if so how long did it last.

Sounds like it - inside of the elbow and painful/tender to touch? In fact when mine is aggravated just slightly leaning on it is painful.

If it's the outside of the elbow it's tennis elbow and just re-reading your description that sounds more like it?

Is it on the inside of the arm. Could well be. I'd take some ibuprofen and put ice on it. I get it if I hit a lot of balls off hard range mats. Tends to last a few days so I rest it and take anti inflammatories and ice and it usually clears up quickly

the description of feeling like you had been shot is what i felt each time i ruptured cartilage in my knee... if its sore tomorrow, go to the quacks...

Exactly what happened to me matey.. Had been a touch sore beforehand, but not noticeably so, then out of nowhere it felt like I was being shot when I made contact with the ball. Ibuprofen, and icepack and an elbow support should help.. But, make sure you rest it for a while first.. Oh and check your swing to make sure its not a bit too "armsy"

Ice for short period to reduce swelling and pain. Never apply direct and don't apply for a prolonged period.

NSAID's such as Ibuprophen if you don't have an active stomach ulcer, it you do have a stomach ulcer consider topical preparations instead.

An elbow compression support may also be beneficial.

Most important. Leave the golf clubs alone for a while. Nothing that requires full movement of the joint under load or possible impact is going to do you any favours.

As Rooter has pointed out the fact you describe such an intense pain is worrying and could indicate more than just golfers elbow. Did you continue playing or did that shot stop you?

If it is still sore or you find movement restricted after a day or two then consider going to the G.P.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've been icing it and applying ibuprofen gel since Thursday evening.

The good news is that today it seems to have improved considerably, so much so that I wore an elbow support and played 18 holes.

It really was a weird one in that initially it really hurt that much that I thought something serious had happened.

Though even then I still completed the round. (I actually played miles better after doing it).

I suspect if I had ruptured something it would have given me a lot more jip than it did, its really only caused discomfort when the arm is in certain positions, lifting my trolley battery for example was not a problem.

Plan to give it a few days off now and hopefully it will be A1 for weekend.

Thats the important bit. Rest rest and more rest. Silly to go out today really but that's the bug for ya.
