I know I shouldn't go trawling websites looking to buy golf clubs late on a Friday evening having been on the grape juice - but I did.
I was looking for a Taylormade R15 number 2 hybrid. No luck on golfbidder or ebay so just googled the club name. It came up trumps, or so it seemed, with what I was after at £100 with free delivery. I looked at the top of the web page and saw the words onlinegolf. Despite my befuddled state, I decided to check back on posts about dodgy websites and was mistakenly reassured that onlinegolf.co.uk was reputable and owned by American Golf. Unfortunately I had purchased from someone who was not onlinegolf.co.uk.
Today I received a confirmation email from service.golfsale@gmail.com which referred me to their website greatgolfclubs.co.uk and when I checked back on the website on which I made the purchase, it was called - not onlinegolf - but golfpages.co.uk.
The vino seems to have set me up for a costly mistake. The most I can expect - if I get anything - is a fake club.
When will I learn?
