I'm sorry that this is a bit late, but it has taken a while to calm down!

Why oh why do these people think they have a right to win majors:

Louis Ouster whats his name
Paul Lawie
Zach Johnson
Lucus Glover
Stewart Cink
Trevor Imelmen
Todd Hamilton
Ben Curtis
ETC...

I can understand how this happens (some overpaid phyco- analytic-babal-common sense talking odd chap convincing all and sundry they are great) but it really p***** me off that the right people don't always win the right chaampionships.

It is nothing against the above golfer, although I am not really keen on American professional golfers in general. I am sure that they are all great fellas, but aren't they supposed to crumble under the weight of trying to win a major?

Come back Scott Hoch, all is forgiven.

Maybe I just want to see more of our boys get the deal finished, or maybe it is down to the fact I am not winning enough money from Paddy Power.

Come on lads, get it together and win the USPGA

bah humbug!!!

what a miserable sod.

i take it you never liked Greece winning the european championships either!

the best man won. get over it.

only time i'd agree with you was last year when i really wanted Tom Watson to win, but then again, he is an American as well!

Does it matter who wins. No. I don't give a stuff. I normally don't even watch them, but this time around I did, as I am laid up. Wish I hadn't. Stroke play is dull to watch.

May be the whole format needs a change. A bit of livening up. A few windmills perhaps. Some naked ladies. More lions. Definitley more bicycles. A naked lady lion on a bike, that would do it.

Tiger Woods?

Drugged up sex pest, he was pretty dodgy.

Who does have the right?

Why can't someone rise to the occasion who isn't british or inside the top 5 in the world.

Isn't it better like this. The person who brings his best game that week, wins...I bet even Louis didn't think he'd win before he arrived at St Andrews last week.

What a load of rollocks!!
Had they qualified?
Did they tee it up?

Then they had every right to win it. Why does a top 20 player have more right to win?

Yes I want a Brit to win but whoever wns has played the best over the 4 days. And that has to be the end of the arguement.

Every one of the Major winners list in the OP have proved to be multiple winners on one tour or another.
If you have the skills, bottle and nerve to win any pro golf tournament you have what it takes to win a Major.

Watched that top amateur Korean Jin Jeong win the British Amateur at Muirfield where he putted the Scottish lad into submission. Wondered how he's go in the Open and turns out he was right up near the lead after 3 rounds having never played with the pros before. Justin Rose did the same 12 years ago. Just saying there is not a gulf in ability between the established big name pros and the top amateurs or the pros way down the rankings nowadays.
Anyone on a good putting week can win a big one.

If the same "top players" won all the majors all the time, people would be bitching about it being boring.

As many people have said, the best player that week wins. And if it's someone you didn't expect, then so be it.

As Chris Berman of ESPN so eloquently puts it, "that's why they play the game".

They won because they put the ball in the hole in fewer shots than everyone else that week. Simples. What gives one guy the right to win a major over another. the OP was the most ridiculous post for a while

Good luck to whoever wins it is what I say.

I think your point about "the right people winning the right championship" is terrible. Its like saying Rooney should be picked for England regardless of lack of form simply because "he is wayne rooney".

Why do some people deserve to win over others? Im sure they all work as hard as each other and if it is down to your flawed betting strategy that you say this, it makes me chuckle. Me, I had £5 on stenson e/w at 80/1 and £5 on westwood e/w at 22/1 so I wasnt complaining!

I love to see an underdog triumph, unless of course it is Wet Spam united in the football.

Isn't he?

Exactly, and it stinks mate. That cretin could go a hundred games without scoring and would still be the 1st name on the sheet.

I felt terrible for 3-metre-peter as he has a fantastic England record and didnt get a sniff really in the World Cup.

Capellos statement of picking players based on form and fitness, not history or past reputation, prooved to be a total lie.

I think the problem you have in modern golf is that, because the equipment is so good and basically the same, every player is so alike and therefore everyone has an equal chance of winning a major.

When I first got into golf, it seemed that Nicklaus, Watson, Seve, Norman, Faldo were the ones winning majors as they had the ability and imagination to play the shots required at any given moment.
