Just bought a new pair of Footjoys. Never thought of this before but does it help to spray them with shoe protector spray or does that affect the waterproof nature of the shoe? I don't know how effective those sprays are anyway but if it helps the shoes I will give them a spraying. Equally I don't want to damage them before I have even stepped onto a golf course.

I paint Castor Oil onto my Eccos and Classics - softens and (further) waterproofs them. Prevents the cracking that can mean a hole arriving on the edge near where the little toe joins the foot!

Had a pair of dry joys for the last 6 years, Polish them regularly with ordinary shoe polish. Haven't leaked a drop. Fit like slippers.

I only really start to treat them when they are losing their waterproof properties. Far more important to wash that salt and mineral infested mud off them with clean water after every round.

Bees wax probably best, dubbin will harm them long term.

Dubbin will rot the stitching, (if there is any), and it won't stop cracking.

I looked into this before. This is an interesting thread.

The use of dubbin on cotton bows and the discussion of the attraction of dirt and subsequent 'grinding' action doing the damaged makes a lot of sense. Therefore, I now use dubbin but make sure if buff it off well paring particular attention to the stiching.

Hope this helps,

Simon

I give mine, a wipe down with a damp cloth to get the thick off, dry them, then a brush with polish, once the polish has been on for a short while, buff with a dry cloth, then I put shoes trees in to help keep the shape.

SOme of my FJ's for seven or eight years and just let them dry naturally, and pack some newspaper in them. Once dry, I'll polish (well HID does) and put dubbin on every other round. Never had any issues will rotten stitching

NIKWAX is the dogs doodahs. Similar to dubbin but without the problems. One tin will last you for years and you can treat any kind of leather shoe or boot.

Yeah but Martin, you have more shoes than Imelda Marcos, not surprising they can last 8 years if you rotate them and wear them only twice a year :) :) :ears:
