Just wondered if any of you had cash riding on your game. I think a few pennies keeps you interested In Saudi Arabia I went home £80 richer once. Also lost a few times. Makes the game more fun, doesn't it? As long as the money isn't too serious.

Always have a small money bet or a bet for the beers.

Occasionally there is say £5/£10 a corner in stablefords.

The most I have played for was £50 but that really was an exception.

I have seen guys playing skins at £100 a pop, to me that is insane money but if they can afford it who are we to argue.

I play sometimes for money, £10 bet to play and there is money for 1st 2nd and 3rd plus winning team. One week I came first and was in the winning team, so won £60. :)

But don't play for money often though!

You think that is insane, read this...

'Davethepro' worked at a golf club in the swiss alps. He said the fee's were something stupid like £15000 a year and some guys played twice a year. £7500 a round?????

He was telling me about some guys who would play match play for like £5000 a hole, or £1000 nearest the pin. INSANE!

We do pound pound pound, or a straight 5er, depending on swindle, but winner buys the drinks/lunch, so it doesn't come to much really.

The most I have played for is 20. Much more than this ceases to be fun.

Our auction final is for 3.5k, I couldn't play for that much.

A bit of a side bet adds spice, but it is a token of winning, and bragging rights, it is not about stripping money of mates.

Wednesday morning 4 ball game usually matchplay for £2.

Weekend crowd usually £5 and winner buys 1st round (and sometimes 2nd).

I used to play for money a while ago and was quite successful. Then I started playing my nephew (at his insistance) for £1 a hole, after a while it was £2 a hole.

You know when you watch someone you helped to teach get better than you, well eventually he kept beating me, till one day I lost 11 holes and halved the rest and decided enough was enough when he suggested £5 a hole lol.

Now I dont play for money unless its an agreed team/partner decision.

Usually we play pound/pound/pound 50p birdies if we are playing stableford, straight matchplay is normally £5.00 with 50p birdies again.
I am sales manager at a used car showroom and last year played my service manager to see which department would be paying for the Christmas dinner. I beat him 4&3 so his department paid for our chinese. He wouldn't play me this year so we're paying for our own
:( :( :(

In my regualr 4 ball on a saturday we always play for a pound a man, if no one wins, it is a rollover (we dont do countback). same applies for pairs comps in that the winning team get the cash, it is only for a bit of fun and it is mainly about getting the bragging rights for another week.

I don't mind playing pound/pound/pound where the winner buys the drinks on the cheaper courses.
But I've won all three plenty of times at some "snobby" clubs and found myself £10.00 out of pocket for winning.
What's that all about then????
:D :D :D

I rarely allow money to get involved in anything let alone golf, as I really don't bet & don't like betting on anything, even if I know its a certainty whatever I could bet on is right or could win.

However I have on occasion allowed myself to get talked into getting involved in the odd skins game for 20pence per hole each in a four ball, just simply to go with the majority on the day. And I will admit it does help focus the mind greatly when playing golf, as I really hate being parted with any amount of money any day of the week.

I wont exactly say skins itself is fun, though I certainly apreciate the idea of it & the posibility of a potentially weak player to win the pot of several holes in one hole won outright. As I say I hate betting & any chance of loosing money even the slight risk when a near certaintyin anything, but would play skins again, if my arm was twisted... rofl.
