I had this conversation a couple of months ago and mentioned it to a PP. I told him I had never been showed how to do it. He asked me to show him what I did and he says there's nowt wrong wi that at all.

Proper bogs me off seeing how some golfers leave there pitch marks and make no attempt whatsoever to repair them. Heard it said a dozen times that " society's are the worst" coz they don't give a hoot. Never seen any proof though.

I recall my first ever pitchmark and I was well chuffed! It was during an on-course lesson so my coach taught me how to repair it correctly and I've never forgotten. I actually enjoy repairing them (mine and others) as it's so easy to see the end result and how much better the green looks. I recall once being asked "are you on the greenkeeper's payroll as you're doing their job for them"!! Surprised how many players don't have a clue and push the forks in, press the handle "down" and lift the turf up.

Probably not but enough to be better than not doing it at all.

My rules in mine plus one more. Unless it's not appropriate.

I'll fix mine and any others I see. Maybe hunt a few more if I am playing with a wanna be tour pro whos plumbing his line...

Most of them with a tee peg because they're too cool to carry the proper tool.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong but I'd guess if you try to do it the right way with a tee peg the earth would tear instead of move.

Centurion are selling pitch mark repair tools with a single prong to try to stop the lift merchants so I'd hope the tee peg method is fine Gary.

TBH, a pitch mark repairer is a relatively recent invention. It was probably late 80's before I saw/had one. The problem I find, watching people use one is many are inclined to give it a bit of a twist too. You can't do that with a tee.

Have to admit that upto about 18 months ago, I repaired pitch marks by lifting, which is how I was show many years ago.

Only found out due to seeing a notice at the golf club on the board

Can we have a definitive answer please. I am starting to doubt what I do now.
