Do you know how far you carry each club ?

Spent some time with my lad (mainly for his benefit) on a GC2 indoors this week and went through the bag to check carry distances.

Was an interesting experience from several perspectives.

He learned he hits most clubs further than he thought (explains a lot) and that there is an imbalance around some of the wedges.

He is now sat on the floor writing carry distances on each club currently :D !!! See how that works out (probably breaking a rule somewhere).

For me it confirmed what I already knew with the irons, though the wedges were a little different to my perception and my congested top of the bag is probably wrong as too many clubs too close.

Need to change it around, drop a wood and pop a lob wedge in probably though plan some new toys soon so will get an expert to advise on that.

He is Cat 1 and the level of consistency with the irons was massively better, distance and dispersion which gave him confidence in the outcome. Distance with the big clubs was consistent but dispersion could be somewhat wayward.

Myself, due to the level of inconsistency, makes me think I will approach some shots with a bit more club in the future particularly if the trouble is short as I hit some right rank ones far too often !

Overall an interesting experience and see how it goes now on the course where it matters.

Something I did a lot with when I started out and at points over the summer will always do on a flat long hole. Always good on the Virtual stuff, but nothing better than having the real thing!

3h - 190/220 dependant on several factors not least of which is how I'm feeling on the day, 18* Adams XTDti set on 17* and used of the tee's as I don't use a driver or 3-wood at the moment...
4h - recently aquired so of an unknown quantity at the moment
6i - 150/160
7i - 140/150
8i - 130/140
9i - 120/130
PW - 100/110
50 - depends on how far I need to be...
55 - depends on how far I need to be...
60 - depends on how far I need to be...
Last but not least the 'putter' once again depends on how far away from the hole the ball has landed up...

I know how you feel with a hybrid - mine is very temperamental..

Why did you round up your yardages to the nearest 10?

How many shots did you do with each club to get your average.

Well done on this a lot of people have not got a clue how far each club goes.

One thing I have found is how different distances are when the weathers different.
I have been down our grass range when its 1 or 2 degrees and have not been able to get my wedge 115 the other day when it was 8 or 9 degrees I was hitting it 122.

So if you can get on the course and get them exact it will make a helluva difference imo

When doing this drill, launch monitors can give the wrong result - or at least be misinterpreted. What you need to know is the distance you hit each club most often and not the average which is all shots added together and then divided by the number of shots - thinking back to the distant school days it is mode or median, or something 🤔
It is quite easy for the Sunday best shot which goes 30 yards past the rest to cock the results up and then you find yourself leaving it short all the time, wondering why you have 'lost' distance

10 Shots with Each club. I rounded them to the nearest 10 as with most if not all of them I was within a yard either side of the 10 I rounded to. I prefer a round number to visualise what I need to do. Personal preference.

As per neild's post, I'd do this again, if he flushes two drop them, if he chunks two drop them, and then you should end up with a more accurate grouping.

What an interesting thread this would be if everybody posted all their carry distance for every club!

This is something everyone needs to do. I go on the GC2 from time to time & download the results onto a flash drive to transfer to my PC. Nobody at the two places I go know how to download results & I always have to do it myself. Very useful & I can think of lots of shots saved by knowing roughly how far a well & not so well hit shot will carry.
