Do you have a consistent strike mark on your irons?

I was playing in a pro-am, corporate day, last week. I was chatting to the pro in my team and he mentioned that he was due a new set of clubs shortly, "the grooves have gone". He passed me a 7 iron and there was a round black mark right in the sweet spot and the grooves at that point were very nearly smooth. The mark was not printed by the mfr, it was repetitive striking in the same area that had done it. The clubs were new this season.

I casually moved back to my own bag and peaked at each and every one of the irons. Not a consistent mark to be seen. Clearly I do not hit consistently at any point of the iron face.

So the question is, who here has that wonderful round strike mark in the centre of your irons and if you do what handicap are you?

Far better value for Ams being able to use clubs for much longer than Pros!

I've seen a 60* wedge that had a dent in the sweet spot and distorted grooves after a few months use by a Pro!

Any mark on my irons would likely be rather more towards the toe than desirable!

Yes, it is a good job they are generally given clubs by a sponsor rather than having to pay for them. Not an issue for top pro's but for those at the bottom end who struggle to make ends meet it would be another burden.

I wonder how long irons will last someone like Mcilroy who really rips the ball.

I have a consistent strike mark on El Hosel...if i sold my clubs, I could sell them as brand new as the middles haven't been used...yet!

its really only the clubs that get a lot of attention you will get a mark, 3-6 less so. So mostly PW LW 9 and possibly 8 and thats due to practice.
Also if you play cast clubs over forged there will be even less relative to the amount of play.

My PW (forged) has a large-ish mark in the lower centre after 14 yrs of use. Luke Donald has a 10p size mark and not even after a season.

Driver face is peppered on the centre but a tad low on the face. Should be catching them higher after my recent lesson and moving the ball further forward in the stance.

Now if I could just marry swing path and club face direction id be set! LOL

I'm just happy when I hit the ball with the front, rather than the bottom, top, toe or hosel.

I would hate to see how bad my consistency of strike point is!

You might be surprised. You should try using an athletes foot spray on the club face. It dries and leaves a white powdery skin behind, and is great for instant feedback on strike pattern.
