I have just been looking at my stats on HDID, my eclectic score is currently -5, but there is still one hole I have never parred in nearly 30 qualifiers.

Its not a particularly long hole, I ought to be able to reach it in 2 but there is something about it that gets me every time.

Do you have a bogey hole?

Yes, the twelfth at my course. Not that long a par 4 but needs two good shots. If I do not hit the tree on the left then I hit the one on the right or the green side bunkers. Always happy with a five let alone a par.

The 7th at ours, and for no good reason. Shortish par 5 but even though the landing area is reasonably wide, the OOB left and water/rough so thick you lose you ball to the right always seems to best me. I even got my drive away nicely today and then hooked my second OOB. It's just one of them holes.

All of them at any time. Capable of making par on each of them but also capable of making triple bogey as well. I am struggling on the way home and the 16th and 17th aren't doing me any favours. On the front nine the 6th is undoubtedly the one. Only 178 yards but with OB left and right, I always seem to find a pull or hook of this tee even if the other five holes have gone smoothly

I can see the potential for this to represent challenges -

1. there's no advantage to the red tees - a few yards, but not a real advantage
2. water to the right will mentally push you left
3. if you aren't going to pitch it all the way to the green the last place you want to approach from is left fairway!

suggestion - push the boundary right; play for the extreme right of the fairway and wave two fingers at the ditch :fore:

now, once you have kept it in play to the right you have the mental advantage over the hole designer - you can play your 3w or rescue right of the bunker at the green. If you come up short it's a simple chip and putt par, make the shot and it's a possible birdie :)

I used to have bogey holes - no longer

I usually do drive to the right hand side of the fairway and often have a reasonable approach but something always seems to go wrong with my 2nd

which begs the question - what? :)

seriously, how do you feel about the approach shot?

even more seriously, is this really a bogey hole for you or do you feel you should have one and are using stats to claim this one??????

:whoo:

Nope, I used to think 1,7 & 9 were my bogey holes but then I realised the only reason they are bogey holes is because my mind says so and my mind doesn't hit the shots.

No bogey hole for me. The tough holes play tough and sometimes I nail them only for an easier one to trip me up!

I seem to be finding though that if our 1st doesn't get you then the 4th surely will - and vice versa :-)

Obviously I don't always hit a great drive but whenever I do hit a good one, something always seems to go wrong, and I seem unable to hit a good second, I have put my first OOB and parred it with the 2nd ball, I have birdied it when practising but in comps something always goes wrong.

And no I don't think I should have a bogey hole.

I wouldn't worry about it. its S.I. 4 make sure you get you bogey and move on.

there is two holes at my old club where I will just lay up and pitch on if I don't get a good drive away. I have a shot so I use it. sometimes I make the par, mostly a bogey and move on without running up big numbers.

Where do I start?! Played 6 'competitive' rounds at my new club, whether it be a medal or a stableford. So far these are my 'bogey' holes.

12th Hole - 404 yards - Par 4 ( 6 Bogeys)
A tough hole with no fairway bunkers, but plenty of undulations that can kick your ball left or right. The left side of the fairway gives you the best line to attack the flag from where you'll have a mid to long iron approach. The green slopes steeply downwards from back to front, so take a 4 and run!

17th Hole - 429 yards - Par 4 (4 Bogeys & 2 Treble Bogeys).
A long par 4, doglegging from right to left and at almost 90 degrees. A tee shot towards the flagpole at the clubhouse will leave a long second shot. The longest players can cut the corner, but have to carry the ball about 250 yards over the trees, OB and two ponds - therefore this shot is only for the brave. The fairway approaching the green slopes severely from right to left, so allow for this on your approach.

Other holes I'd like to mention.

9th Hole - 544 yards - Par 5 (2 Birdies & 4 Bogeys)
The longest hole on the course and a fairway that resembles a traditional links course with plenty of humps and hollows. Try to leave your second shot on the left side of the fairway so that your approach shot is up the length of the green. Be aware of a severe step at the front of the green that will catch any mis-hits.

13th Hole - 505 yards - Par 5 (Last 3 times I have played it I have double bogeyed the hole)
A great par 5 where you have to drive through a chute of trees that is wider than it looks from the tee. The longest players can reach the green in two if the conditions are favourable, but if not you should lay up on the left side of the fairway to open up a short iron to a sloping and deceptive green.

Yes. Our first hole is it for me.
200 yard par 3 with OOB down the right, a ditch running diagonally across the hole with a steep slope going towards it, a bunker shot of the green but looks like it's right next to the green and a bunker to the right of the green.
The tee is in the top right corner BETWEEN the path and the trees so your playing towards the slope and the ball is always being taken away from the green. If your brave enough to take it on the best shot is down the right, along the tree line, to the right of the bunker in front of the green.

Do you have a bogey hole?

It used to be the 9th at mt track, but since having lessons, it's not really given me any problems.

I do have a new 'bogey' hole mind, but it's all mental. Our 5th is a 202 yard par 3. Everything right is OOB, even after the hole, with OOB also to the left (... If you go far enough).

Green surrounded by bunkers and they stick some right stinky pin positions on there.

I very rarely par this hole.

Ok here's my bogey hole

Par 4 18th
All distances are in meters,
I've never had par and typically a 6 but often enough its been blob
Been ahead twice in my small group with just this to play and lost

17th at mine usually causes me trouble. 196 yds, into the wind.

The real problem is that I don't have a club that I can hit a full shot with. My 5w is too big and my hybrid flies too high, and so struggles to get up. I need a 3 iron. I miss the green most of the time and my short game has been a car crash for a while, so quite often duff a chip, get on in 3 and 2 putt for a 5.

Saying that, I can make a pig's ear of any hole at my course, I don't restrict myself to 17.
