disallusioned with your game. Even after I've had a good round I still find myself hacked off with the game and wonder if its all worth it. Sometimes I find that the whole game is more like a chore. I find myself counting down the holes till its over then feel cheesed off for a few days after which gets to H.I.D

Definitly not, if i felt like this i would give the game up and find a new hobby. Dont get me wrong sometimes i get mad but i always see the next hole as a chance to make up for the last bad one. At the end of the day, its all aout fun, should be no pressure in playing(unless you do it for a living) Once you accept that and dont put expect too much of ya self, you should find playing alot more fun. I know at the moment my target is to break 90, this is do-able so even when i mess up i dont really get hacked off. But if i set my self the target of breaking 80 it would be a million miles away and i feel like i would never want to play.

Maybe you should stop scoring a few rounds!

Dont let it get to you, yes there will be bad shots but think of the good ones.

When I played 11 last tuesday, I was incensed as I made an 8 on the Par 4 13th, went onto the 14th (SI 1 - 470yd Par 4) Hit a cracking drive over the trees to cut out the dog-leg and then a 5W off the fairway to within 3 ft for a birdie.

That is the beauty of golf, we all have a world-class shot or 2 in us and thats why I play because a couple of times per round, no matter what is happening, I know that I will play a shot that makes me feel as good as Tiger Woods.

Enjoy your golf.

I think half the trouble with feeling cheesed off at the moment is the weather,3 weeks into the season when we hope to be in shirt sleeve order we still have the thermals on.
A very cold east wind this morning and now it`s raining.
Roll on summer.

Seriously cheesed off yesterday after shooting 116, but it is only a game. I have always enjoyed playing. Sounds to me like it is not the game for you.

Even when you have a terrible round there's always those good shots that you remember. These shots are what make you return and try again.

That's why golf is the best game in the world. You can never master it.

bit worrying that you get hacked off after a GOOD round. How long you been playing? Whats your handicap? Maybe take a month off then see how you feel. I played really badly on Friday and got hammered 7 & 6 by my mate who will take the mickey for ages, but still couldn't wait to get 9 holes in this morning and came in 9 over, under handicap for me

As i said mate, just dont mark any cards for a while and forget your score card. You'll be surprised at the results. I think i had one of my best rounds doing this but obv never had the card to prove it.

I feel your pain, i've been out Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week, scored 91, 87 and 84 (bounce games), so i was really looking forward to the medal today, despite the fact that i was finishing a nightshift and tee-ing off 3 hrs later. I carded a 109 :(

oooh, 12 hour nightshift by any cahnce? Thats not good for the brain. I would imagine there were some dodgy shot selctions that you kicked you self about afterwards!

Yep, 1800-0600.It was mainly my Putting and Chip shot's around the green that done me in, i thinned most of them through the back of the green.

I dont think there is a worse shot for me, thinning a chip shot and watching in dispare as it sails (in slow motion) over the back and usually down the hill into rough!

the worst thing is to finish badly. A completely awful round can be salvaged in my mind by a decent drive or approach shot on the eighteenth. On Friday messed up 16, 17, 18 - bad news. (But still back for more today!)
Sounds like you might need a week or two off to remember what you're missing.

Agree with AliB there is nothing worse than making a hash of the last hole and not having the chance to put it right. It takes me hours to get it out of my head when I do that (been known to come home after a round, have a bite to eat and go to the range jsut to get it out of my system).

Having not played to my handicap in 2008 it would have been easy for me to get disillusioned but because I have revamped my swing, I know that I have to see the longer term picture. Yesterday and today were much better (especially the front 9 today) so its a question of keep plugging away.

Lets face it even the worse round of your life has to beat going to Sainsbury's on a Sunday afternoon

I can’t say I’ve ever felt that way about this beautiful game of ours. Even after a bad game there’s always the club house banter to look forward too, and you usually find that someone’s had an even worse day than you.

I’m already looking forward to next Saturdays game, which will be my first Open comp. of the year.
