Do you ever video your swing so you can see it for yourself?

Do you video your swing?

I have been struggling with an 'over the top' swing so I find it useful to film myself to see if I'm making progress. I'll film myself on the range but rarely on the course

No, unfortunately my camcorder doesn't have wide screen :D

The main reason for me not doing this is I don't know what i'm looking for so i'd rather not tinker.

If I need my swing checking I go to my pro whom I have great trust in and pay him for his expertise.

Usually to see if I am doing what I'm trying to do (feel not being real and all that) or to see if I can spot why my strike isn't as it should be. In reality I can't read the whole swing that well but would spot the more basics such as set up, ball position etc. I do try and go frame by frame to see what's happening BUT would still struggle to analyse it.

From the DTL view, draw a line vertical to the ground from the back of your bum cheeks and see if your bum stays on that line. Also see if your head raises or falls in either your backswing or downswing.

Ok - will check that out later. I'm guessing if my bum moves forward I'm out of room and would have to lift up??

no but will be for a while from now on until the new posture and swing etc becomes natural and ingrained and to prevent me slipping back into the old one.

That's correct. You'll lift your head, or kind of crunch up your shoulders, you'd lose your spine angle and look almost like you are standing up vertical thru impact.

I'd like to, in fact want to, but never ever seen anyone doing it at the range, I'm too shy to do it as I'll probably start J arthuring

I guess the next part of the question is WHY?

Do you know what you're looking at? are you able to fix yourself or are you just looking to see if it's pretty, I mean does it look better/different when you're happy that you're swinging it well and can you see stuff wrong when you aren't?

For me its to check if the things from my last lesson are goint the way they should be going. Straight left arm, hands high in the back swing and to make sure the right arm is away from the body.

Its better to see it on video than just by feel, as sometimes it feels like im doing it but im not.

I do from time to time, but not to find faults as I don't think I know enough to do that.

What I'm checking for is 2 or 3 bad habits that I know I am prone to slipping back into.

I just want toothless old men to say "you have a purdy swing"......

seriously though I do want a purdy swing and technically sound as well

This is what I look for. My swing, and tempo has been with me since the mid/late 70's, and on the only occasion I went for a full rebuild it destroyed me for a nigh on a year. I went back to my old one and I'll stick with my dodgy one, and that's what I look for when I see any vid's of it.

I film mine a lot when I'm at the range. But I don't use it to diagnose myself, I use it to check I'm doing what my pro has asked me to work on.

Usually once after I've warmed up. I'll hit a few and record it as a starting point and double check setup etc. Then I'll do slow motion swings focussing on what my pro has told me to work on. Film those to see what 'right' looks like and feels like. Then gradually build up swing speed and film every 10 balls or so to check I'm still doing what I think I'm doing.

I have a real issue with feel vs real. Often what feels correct is miles off. I can check in a mirror, but that only works for slowish swings. I need the camera to see what I'm doing when my swing is at normal speed.

My pro knows I film my swing so when I have a lesson we discuss what I need to look and check for when I'm filming my swing.

I do it from time to time just to see what it is I am doing. "where the swing is at".

I wish I had a video of all my swings taken once a month for the minute I started play. that would be awesome! I would have some absolute shockers in there. none of them would be pretty. :o
