Do you ever buy clubs without trying them?

I ask this because I am in the market for a new putter and I know what style putter I am best with and weight etc. And putters such as Scotty Camerons seem to be hard to come by in shops, not to mention them being 1/4th of the RRP on eBay, so do you/ would you buy clubs without trying them before hand?

I do with putters, happily buy second hand and if I dont get on with them then bang them straight back up for sale again. Have probably "auditioned" 10 putters this way over the last couple of years

No - always try the club if you are going to spend a bit of money on it you have to make sure you aren't throwing your money away

All but one of my clubs were bought without trying, either off ebay or second hand.
The only one I tried was my putter, which I rolled a few balls with in a Sports Direct or similar, decided I liked it and bought a used one off ebay.

They are golf clubs. They can all be used to a certain extent. They have all had a stint in the bag. Some stay, others get replaced by the next shiney that catches my eye.

I am not playing for a living so its not really a life or death thing.

I find it tough to move clubs on. I've only ever sold 3 in my life. I wish I still had two of them. :o

Did you know you'd get on with the clubs? Or was it a complete gamble?

Hadn't a clue if I'd get on with them or not, but at the end of the day all clubs are a stick with a lump of metal (or wood) on the end and I knew I'd be able to move the ball in some fashion with them.

Would a custom fit be better? I hope to find out next year.
