I and my partner have just qualified for the knock out stages of one of our board comps. Now after qualifying for a couple last year and playing really badly in the matchplay stage I swore I wasn't going to play in any board comps that had a matchplay element to them. I just do not play as well in matchplay as I do in medal competitions. I'm really not looking forward to the next round. Do you enjoy or dread matchplay?

I enjoy matchplay comps have a tendacy to implode but still enjoy playing, have entered a couple of national comps as only the 1 at the club beside the couple of board comps you qualify for.

Love it - my favourite form of golf especially if there's a team element too. Not so keen if I'm playing mates from the same club though!

My favourite form of the game and with me and my mate being very similar in ability we have some great matches which are very often all square standing on the 18th.

i enjoy a good ding dong match play match. although sometimes it just turns into pistols at dawn with both players just wacking the ball as hard as they can towards the pin in an attempt to make a birdie or salvage a hole from an unlikely postiton.

the notion of building a good round goes out the window. i dont think i play my best golf in these conditions although you can get a certian swagger about your game when you are cruising 4 up :)

We play this throughout the winter and in inter club matches and its just the best format. My regular partner and I won the club winter league last year and its just about the hardest comp to win, sadly we went out of this years comp in the last 16 hen my back was so sore that I couldn't pick the ball out of the cup

Best format of golf for me, will always play matchplay given half a chance. Tend to thrive on the me vs opponent rather than me vs golf course side i think :)

Just got to the final of the Club winter foursomes. Chance to get on the board a second time in four years, but you just never know in matchplay. You don't need to play well, just better than your opponents. I had a mare in the semi-final, and the only fairway I hit was the 4th, and that was when I was playing the 16. Came from 3 down after 10 to win on the last. My only real contribution was to hole a four footer on the last.

Despite playing rubbish I loved the match, and winning with a partner makes it better. Big thumbs up for matchplay, and a chance to actual beat someone, rather than just play with them.
