played a friendly game today and my friend (following a lesson) arrived at the course with an addition to his bag. he baught i dunlop 56 deg wedge from soccer sports. look 5 inches off it and re-gripped it! ''what the hell is that'' i said. his chipping was amazing that day. i said ''why not just grip down? turns out he doesnt like the feeling.
so, armed with this info i went to the short game area and practice chipping and small pitches gripping right down to the metal. the results where fantastic. is this old news or is anyone else amazed at what difference a few inches makes :D

I'm almost always near the steel when chipping with any club, and to be honest i'm never comfortable hitting full wedge shots,i'd much rather take a gap wedge instead of the sand wedge and take a bit off,if that makes sense ?

If you used it for majority of your chipping I wouldn't call it a waste of a club in the bag. Good chipping can save a lot of shots, I should know as I lose plenty through terrible chipping!
