Do the math

Read this recently

do the math as the yanks say!

1. I'm not a yank
2. It's not math it's maths
3. If it's adding up and taking away (sums in my day) it's not maths it's arithmetic.

Sorry, rant over

:(

I knew this thread was coming. Took longer than expected to appear. You must have been having your mid-morning nap :D

Totally agree with you Bob. "Math" is an awful term.

It won't be long before this is the standard phrase amongst the yoof of Britain.

US cultural imperialism at work. Disgraceful to see - resist at every turn at all costs!

I don't get it. It's not as if he said "do the math" without anything else added like it had crept into his everyday vocabulary.

Chillax, as the kids would say

If that's the worst thing you can find to moan about today Bob we'll chalk it up as a winner :D

I hate this word...I think it is quite possibly one of the worst words to have ever slyly crept its way into the vernacular!

What about the w.. Yanks calling the closing holes "The Stretch" !!!!

That grips my sh1ter

I dont mind it so much when the Americans say it, it's when we start to copy them thinking it's cool to talk like the yanks that I get wound up.

'Shop' is now a store or retail outlet
bunker is a trap
films are now movies
Shopping centres are now malls
Chips are now fries
etc etc etc

24 7. Find it very annoying.
My old English teacher hated americanisms, he would most likely have agreed with the math comment etc
Unfortunately over here my children get math homework and phonics too...don't remember that from when I was at primary school.
