I am watching the Mallorca Open on Sky and they are playing like haddies because its a wee bit blowy. It has taken Rapheal Jacquelin's group ONE HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES to play THREE holes !!!!!!!

I think the tour players are playing far too much golf in benign conditions and becoming unfamiliar with 'testing' conditions we face on a weekly basis. Looking at the trees it is not blowing a hooly but is offering a stiff breeze.

Do Pro's have it too easy when it comes to weather?

Its blowing a bit alright but you'd imagine with the amount of golf there playing and there ability plus having a fella on the bag that knows their exact distances and exactly which club to hand you, how could that be a problem.....
As the OP said thats what we have to play in every week.....
Its either 1 or 2 clubs up or down... How hard is that....
There's an excuse for us mortals we only play once a week.. :D :D

Hmm, yeah we play in those conditions every week. They don't have the luxury of hitting it round in 90 shots and going up 0.1

Still agree that it is stupid amount of time though. Saw the congestion on the 3rd tee and thought a) why don't they hit provisionals?? and b) do they ever call the following group through??

Disgusting display of golf from pro's they should be ashamed of themselves. There is no excuse for play as bad as that regardless of conditions.

I'd of walked off the course if I was in the group behind them. 80mins for 3 holes is rediculous. Infact I'd of made sure I was allowed to play through then put a complaint in after the round.

I do think the tour and the players representatives both have a duty to get to grips twith slow play before it finally spirals totally out of control. I think pros need to be docked shots as to be honest any fine is punitive unless they start taking out of tournament winnings and so a few cards become under threat

You have to wonder why they weren't on the clock - and if they were, why weren't they penalised.
That's 8 hour round pace fer chrissake!!

It's time to they got tougher with them.

I got round in 2 1/2 hours last week, so when i told the legendary very slow 3 ball in front of us on the 1st tee yesterday to keep a move on because i wanted to be in before the rain, they looked at me aghast. Kept the pressure on them and got them round in 3 3/4 yesterday, which was at least an hour quicker than the last time they were out in front of us ...

Do you think it is about time the TV companies and other media start to ask the tour questions as to why they are not penalising the slow players and encoutraging them to push on. I know footy has a problem with diving but you dont see centre halfs diving on a Sunday but you do see weekend golfers do all sorts of time wasting rituals they have picked up from the telly box.

It is a serious problem that needs to be controlled now.

so when i told the legendary very slow 3 ball in front of us on the 1st tee yesterday to keep a move on because i wanted to be in before the rain, they looked at me aghast.

Good chance you'd be walking with a driver stuck out of your ass if you said that to me on the first tee.

Why?

I think its fair to keep the speed of play up but without running round. As the rules of golf say: Keep up with the game in front and NOT infront of the game behind. If you do that then nobody can comment.

I agree but it's no ones place to tell me that before I even tee off the first. Unless it happens to be a course official starter/marshall.

If the group ahead are slower (maybe they lose a few balls) then they should simply call Mr.Speedy though.

Can't agree at all, if a group are notoriously slow, then no reason not to give them a friendly reminder before they start

No worries. We can't all agree,... the world would be such a boring place if we did :)

You just need to be diplomatic, my suggestion would be, " Sorry guys I need you to pick up the pace this week as I forget my razor!" -any better suggestions.
