I was looking at the end of season review thread and noted that I had actually played very few courses this year. At my old club I played quite a few due to there being a team playing social fixtures at the weekend. We used to play the reverse fixture to the 1st team, there as no handicap restrictions and it was a good chance to play other courses at a far reduced price as well as to socialise a bit.

At my current club there is a C team but they play midweek and it appears to be a bit of a closed shop (partially I suspect because only certain people can play on a weekday afternoon).

So, is the weekend social team something that most clubs have (and something worth proposing to my current club to see if there is any interest).

Yes have it at my club (and all clubs ive been at previously),think its well worthwhile, semi competitve golf and a chance to play a variety of other local courses in a relaxed atmosphere

Our place has the B team for matches and they are mainly a weekday evening tee off 4.30 onwards. We have some club matches against Ganton, Lindrick, Walton Heath, Royal West Norfolk and a few others but that is a proper closed shop to get into.

The battle isn't getting the matches involved its getting an organiser and someone to make sure everyone turns up, So many clubs are finding that most golfers just want to turn up play and go home. No organising or helping out.

We have friendlies all through the summer, home and away. I have played in a few home ones, but not sure I care to pay £15 a time to play on my own course.

In this part of the world (Leics) virtually all inter-club matches, Scratch, B Team & Rabbits are mid-week fixtures.

The only real exceptions are the Mixed Team who play on Sunday afternoons.

We have a whole host of friendlies at my current club, previous one was like OP with reverse of scratch league match fixtures.
I haven't played any yet but there are constant emails asking for players especially home matches these days. I always thought it preferred to play against the same opponents in both legs of the friendlies.

We have a select group that play the main trophy events (scratch events, Daily Mail etc). The other games are friendly matches usually home and away. Some have a trophy to play for. They are competitive to a degree but not that serious. I like the atmosphere and a chance to play local courses nice and cheaply (match fees). The only downside is we seem pretty short on fixtures and there are probably only 6-8 opponents in the diary

We have an East Kent League team and then the club arranges plenty of friendly matches with other local clubs. You have to play in the home match to be first on the sheet for the away match. Fee is £12 per match but that gets you sandwiches before and 1 course meal after. They are good fun and I play in as many as I can, some are weekdays and some are weekends.

Yup - we have one - we play in a Hogs Back League. Comprises clubs geographically close to the Hog's Back (the geological feature of the North Downs that runs between Farnham and Guildford). Very competitive-friendly.
