Do I need any more clubs?

I find myself aimlessly trawling ebay but don't really know why. I've got some decent budget beginners MX17s 3-SW, TM bubble shaft burners 10.5 and 3. An MP600 big stick and am toying with a driving iron and 5 wood at the moment which I've got on loan. I can say I'm happy with my irons and love my Ram Zebra putter but wonder if my bag use a club or 2

Do I need any more? Hybrids, recue clubs, fairway woods, extra wedges?

Perhaps a Hybrid/Rescue club to replace your long irons if you struggle with them

Thanks, I'm not particularly struggling with the long irons in general, yes the distance is poor but it's the same with all my clubs being the standard I am at the moment. I'm just as comfortable knocking a 3 iron as I am pitching a wedge but as I've said before I like the idea of a fairway knock with a wood and have been quite successful with my 10.5 TM. Today I played my 5 wood once or twice though I don't think it's really a fairway wood.

10.5 TM is that not a Driver? What is your 5 wood that your using as they should be a doddle to hit?

Yes it's a driver, I've tried to refrain from using it on the fairway recently (though it was great for me) and have learned to use my irons with some success but the distance is still lacking. I'm still working on my tee shots but have completely lost my wood driving ability which I'm working on. I'm currently knocking 160 off the tee with a 3 iron which is my best option (was doing 220 with my 10.5 driver) and find myself 200yds out with my 2nd shot on a par 4. I might get it to within 50 yds with a 3 iron but feel a fairway wood or something would maybe get me closer

Edit, my 5 wood is just a cheap club, about the same size head as my 10.5 TM, lovely off the turf but I struggle off the tee with it. Why do I strike better off the turf than off the tee? 10.5 better, 5 wood better. 3 iron just as far 2nd shot??? WTF??

Hitting a Driver from the fairway takes some doing mate, I play off 8 and would not even attempt to do that if you can hit that then nothing should be a problem:) Yes a 5 wood is a good club to use, there are loads to choose from. Have you taken lessons at all? perhaps speak to your local PGA Pro see if he can help you

Thanks, see my edited last post, I can't explain it really. I've had 3 lesson which have really helped. I'm driving my MP 600 only about 140 yds, full effort off a castle tee and am slicing it also. I can play a half swing basically from the set position and knock it the same but straight, plenty work to do there, I know it will come because I had it then lost it. Weird how you think you've sorted one part of the game then it goes to pot.

Yes thats Golf for you. Sounds like a swing fault then mate if your slicing the big stick, most likely an out to in swing path caused by an over the top downswing causing the club to cut across the ball sending it curving off to the right, its something the majority of golfers struggle with at some point, I cured mine by regular lessons and practice not easy but its worth it in the long run. 5 wood problems off the tee could be simply that you are teeing it up far too much if you hit it o.k from the fairway, I rarely hit 5 wood from the tee but if I do I tee it up so the ball is only just off the ground similar to an iron shot. Stick with it as it does get easier and we all have bad days and good days, I would definitely say keep up with the lessons though

Thanks, I appreciate the advice, the postive for me is I've learned how to strike the irons properly recently, I'm sure I can crack this driving problem then I'll be drive, iron, pitch and 2 putt, game sorted and a 15 handicap in no time :D (as if )

Try sharpen the short game up like you said your hitting driver 3 iron into a par 4 and it leaves you 50 yards try hitting it to 10ft and nocking it in

Chances are you will have a shot any way

Best to spend the cash on a few more lessons - as your swing improves you will get better results with your current clubs and begin to get a feel for what you might like to add.

thats the sensible advice. Otherwise - I always need new clubs!
