Or perhaps its just me,
I had a few quids worth of vouchers to spend at a local golf emporium from my society win this month and decided to buy my 4 year old daughter a pair of golf shoes as she knows she isnt allowed onto the "big" course without proper white shoes (thats what we have come to call golf shoes :) )
Got her a pair of Footjoy Greenjoy Junior size 1 and paid £30.
Now 30 quid isnt an awful lot of money these days but it still made me feel that it was quite a lot for a pair of kids shoes that will be outgrown inside 6 months or so.
Is it just me showing a hit of tightness?

PMSL I dont think many will understand the 'Wind yer neck in' comment.

I dont think thats too bad - I have a 1 year old and I only buy Clarkes shoes for him, at £28 a pop they are expensive as you only get2 months beforew they are too small.
I dont care for the price, my parents once bought cheap non leather school shoes - with my severley sweaty (and smelly) feet I ended up in tears in hospital after a weeks wearing, needless to say no more cheap shoes. By cheap I mean they have to be leather or breathable - price tag is last thing I look at, although I sometimes do laugh at the prices.

Main thing is comfort - would you wear rubbish shoes??

I agree, buy cheap and buy twice etc etc but these shoes are the only version out of the entire range of footjoys that are not made from full leather materials acording to the guide inside the box which means they should really cost less. Dont get me started on lelly kellys.

Sorry Brendy, I never bothered to look at the materials - I would expect for £30 the materials would be of some quality.

OK backing from me - Footjoy wind yer neck in lads!!

Pete they are a quality shoe, longevity will prove how good though. I think my gripe is that they just didnt use real leather, the sole will always be plastic so I wonder why they changed from natural to synthetic for the uppers.

I don't have a problem with them being synthetic, after my round today my feet came out of them as fresh as they used to with my old leather Adidas shoes. Modern technology makes them breathable and waterproof and cheaper to manufacture (probably).

Have to think that you are being a little over optimistic in hoping for leather uppers in a junior shoe. As far as I can remember not all of the footjoy range until perhaps the AQL (adult version) have a leather upper and then as you go up the styles from there the leather comes into it more.

I'm pretty sure that if you looked across most of the big names (Hi Tec, Nike, Adidas etc) that all of their junior ranges wwould be made of a similar material to the Footjoy. I think its a sign of getting a cheap shoe with a big mark up for the growing kids market. Am I surprised? No is the honest answer

I wonder about other sports. Not having kids of my own (HID getting broody mind - all I see is it impacting my handicap!!!) are kids football boots made with real leather or are they the same and made synthetically?

What do you expect for £30?

How much would a branded trainer cost?

Just think you need to be a little more realistic.

Yes, but you pay more for them. E.g for a recent style in a known brand your talking £50 for leather kids sizes (1-6) and £30 for synthetic, although these are only rough figures.

Personally I think it is a lot of money to spend on kids golf shoes, but then again it is about the going rate so you can't blaim footjoy.

Im just gauging your responses fellas. Nico, I am being realistic as I did take them, I didnt go huffing out the door like Victor Meldrew :D
I suppose the leather vs synthetic argument is a bit of a weak one as technology has come so far however I would love to know why use leather in some models when the synthetic uppers breathe, repel water and last as long if not longer than the real mccoy. Is it purely a prestige thing?

It is a bit of a pi55 take when you can buy size 14 Greenjoys for men for £40 and the kids sizes are a smidgen cheaper.

Here is another thought, I was an adult size in a shoe (size 7) when I was 10 so my parents had to fork out for mens shoes when my gimpy pals still got cheaper shoes in kids sizes. Its all a con.

look at the comparative markets guys. there are a lot more adult males buying golf shoes than there are kids. therefore what design/production costs there are (and yes they're all knocked out in a sweat shop) bear more heavily on a childs shoe than on an adults. plus being a specialist shoe adds another mark-up, as does the label.

the materials cost is little different between a childs shoe and an adults. there are actually proportionally higher costs involved in producing a childs shoe.

at that £30 is cheap compared to what some idiots are prepared to cop out for their kids trainers - wrecked in 60 secs (the battles I had with my kids trying to get them to understand that a flash label says nothing about quality).

As viscount said... I was one of the idiots that used to pay £70-£80 for my sons trainers when I wouldn't pay above £30 for my own.
Peer pressure at school me thinks.
Incidently his last 6 months max. I still have my £30 ones and they're 12years old. seen better days but still proves that you don't need to spend mega bucks on footwear.

Also I am a yorkshireman ;)
