Just seen a link from Mark Crossfield saying that us amateurs can use them from next year. I thought they wanted all levels of the game treated equally?

Maybe they'll let us keep long putters too..?

But that's nothing new.

Is this in relation to at elite amature and low level profession tours?

If not then I am confused by the OP.

Hardly ground breaking considering they can be used on the junior pro tours (ie Europro). Sooner they are allowed full stop (including for the pros) the better imo, stop having to read/post on 20 threads a month lol

Care to expand? "The committee" (including the R&A for their events) can already allow their use under local rule, so what has changed?

Heard a new one about DMD's during a medal yesterday, from a chap who came across as quite a knowledgeable rules buff.

Reckoned that because it's technology, you couldn't tell anyone else what your DMD said the distance was, because it passes as advice.

I'm 99% certain this is nonsense, as the rules specify distance information isn't advice, but I hadn't heard the aspect about because it comes from a technological tool. Would have asked him to show me the rule, but it was pouring with rain, and I wasn't getting my rules app or book out to get wet!

Just to clarify, i'm right, yeh? Having just taken a 10 on the par 5 before, I really couldn't be bothered with the argument so just went by what he thought was right!

He was spouting tosh I'm afraid

Oh don't worry, I've spent enough time reading the rules section to appreciate that!

Glad to hear I was right. If I see him at the club, I'll point it out to him, just in case it effects/affects him in the future!

you've be had! load of rubbish its not advice its fact so perfectly allowable.

Maybe the OP is meaning that the Rules of Golf will now allow DMD so there will be no need for a local rule. Professionals would be precluded from using them by Tour/Tournament rules.

Yep - just let everyone use them

The OP means - the R&A are going to allow them in their amateur events this year (under Local Rule), which they haven't before.

Logan is EGU and have allowed them for a few years as in all their events. All PGA events allow them I believe as does Europro, and have done for a few years too.
