Allowed to use one in Midland golf union comps and in County comps.
Taken from our rules of competition.
A player may obtain distance information by use of a Distance Measuring Device (DMD). This applies for
all County events even when held at a Club that has not approved such a device for members use.
NOTE - If, during a stipulated round, a player uses an electronic device which is able to access local
weather information (e.g. wind, temperature, humidity), the player is NOT in breach of Rule of Golf 14-3
(see Decision 14-3/18).
If a device has functions to actively measure or gauge current wind and temperature conditions at a
precise location on the course or to communicate with third parties except for safety reasons or in an
emergency, its use for these purposes would be in breach of Rule of Golf 14-3 (Penalty – disqualification).
Never had an issue at myplace. Always been allowed and all the away courses I've been to allow them. They are here to stay so why would a club not allow them?
The sooner they scrap this fully and allow the pros to use a rangefinder (as they now do at lower levels ie europro) the better imho. So bored of watching caddies and players taking ages pacing out and repacing out yardages and adding to the overall levels of slow play at their level
