Divots

Just wondering can anyone explain why i take deep divots at times....
This doesnt happen all the time just the odd time....
Also this is only my 3rd round with the new irons and i know it'll take a bit of time with them but i never took a divot with my old Di7's.

Is it good to take a divot?
Does this mean that im doing something right?

Yes I.M.O its very important to take a divot maybe the size of a note and not too deep,even if its not so easy to do on rock hard ground.

It depends on how deep, deep is. Are you taking great chunks of the course with every shot and hitting them fat or heavy. You do need to hit irons with a descending blow to create the spin and so a nice divot (about the size of a note as pokerjoke suggests) would indicate you are hitting well. It isn't by any means a uniformed guide. A lot of players only take a very shallow divot but as long as you aren't picking it clean everytime you should be swinging ok
