Over the last few months i've tried almost everything to gain some distance with my driver and long shots . I was really on the verge of chucking it .
I tried changing ball type , i tried and almost bought new clubs, i even booked then cancelled lessons .
Then today the sun came back , along with my distance, 220 yard drives . I'm over the moon , hope the good weather keeps up.:whoo:

The cold makes a massive difference to distance. I hit at least 2 clubs more in the winter.

220 yard drives? Can only assume you were hitting an 8 iron. :D

Sorry but had to be said after some of the distance claims that appear on the forum.

It's a completely different game isn't it! I've gained a lot more distance as a) my game is in a better shape and b) the course means the ball is rolling out rather than just stopping where it landed! Hope it hangs around for a bit I've never driven the ball so far!

With this in mind do you think this will affect the English pro players who have made their home and majority playing in the USA warm climate at this years British open?

Spent the winter going Driver, wood, wood - and was still short of par 5 green.

Today it was driver, wood, 9 iron to the heart of the green

I hit some monsters today on the hard fairways, I thought it was just me though....... damn it :|

It was still only 10 degrees, so hopefully a few more yards to go

With this weather and dry conditions Ive for sure seen a increase in my drives,
Getting around 250 - 260 now which for any amateur is plenty

Greens are so dry that's where I'm struggling

Last year in the wet wet wet summer, our stroke index one often played driver and rescue club in comps. It's already playing driver, 6 iron and may be 8 iron in if it firms up more. Yes, my newly acquired Ping G15 driver is a bit longer than the Titleist D2 was, but last year the fairways were long grass and soft, played in wind and rain in the comps. Roll on the summer!

Its looking like I might be able to play this Sundays medal in a T shirt! a massive 17 degrees..scorchio!

Nothing as yet distance wise its been about 10 deg for the last month or so with the odd 18 day, but i tend to find its only when we get 20 deg plus i gain a bit of distance. Something about the air pres around the Moray firth.

So roll on that one day in Aug;)

amazing the difference it makes, i thought my 7 iron was broken a few weeks ago, it wasn't reaching the green at 150 yards down the range, now its flying over it, and my fragile ego is restored

it's still not 'warm' in the SE... :(

(that's my excuse for failing to match the forum averages anyway)

SE UK? what, 20 degrees isn't 'warm'?

try 5 degrees which feels like zero with wind chill.

Played Saturday in sunshine but V cold, a par 4 that is a drive and 9 iron was a drive and 4 iron with no wind:(

everything is bigger in warmer weather :smirk::smirk::smirk:

Agreed I played on Saturday, the temperature when I teed off was 2 with a bitter northerly wind. The SE is tropical compared to good old Buxton.
