Along with a golfing mate of mine, we agree that they are a waste of time on your own course. you have 150 markers and you know how far it is to the green and how big they are etc etc.....who hits their clubs the same distance every time anyway blah blah.....but. I downloaded one o' those free ones and used it yesterday, only front middle and back distances. Does it make a difference? You betcha  But why? When firing into the greens / par threes, it made a difference because, in my opinion, it take away any doubt. It made a great difference, when I actually hit the greens from where I was, because I would use the right club and get A LOT closer to the pins. This is all you really need, front middle and back distances. Roll on Sundays Comp !!!!

At last CF you have seen the light, I agree with you that out at 150 yds etc they dont make that much difference but I have found its within 100yds that they have improved my game, actually KNOWING what a distance is rather than guessing makes a huge difference when you have your scoring clubs in your hand..I do disagree however that front middle and back is all that you need, knowing how far it is OVER a hazard sometimes comes in very useful..
Anyway nice to have you into the fold..

And I might say that the golfers mastery of his uncertainty is one of the great aspects of the game...and DMDs take a significant element of that away. I wouldn't have them around our own track in a comp for the reasons you gave - and we don't all have or can afford a DMD. When I am playing my track with a fellow member and he whips out his DMD when 50yds from the green I struggle to not get irritated - but I keep calm...

Playing a course you don't know - yup - I accept the value a DMD will 100% have and have no issues - and might get myself one for such occasions - and of course that might find me end up using one on my own track.

use it all the time around my home track and we have distance markers to front and Middle along all the fairways from 200+ out about every 10 yards or so.

Does it make a difference, of course. we have big greens and knowing where the pin is deff helps, sometimes the difference can be almost 2 clubs.

If you've got one use it how you see fit

I agree that lasers are most useful within pitching distance, but I also find them useful from further out - even with colour coded flags at our place.

If a GPS tells me 155 to the middle and it's a middle flag, it might be 150 or it might be 160. Choosing the right club could be the difference between having a decent birdie chance or trying not to 3 putt.

I agree completely.

I started with a Skycaddie as I was playing more new courses (to me) and always felt I was unsure and therefore tentative with my shots. I now have a laser too for the shorter shots into flags. For par 5s I use a watch to give a general distance to the centre of the green so that I can hit to approx 100 yes from the green centre.

They have really helped my game- it is much more consistant.

I have a laser and find them most helpful inside 100 yds which is where I have the best distance control, I have also found out how bad I am at estimating distances.

Lasers are extremely useful when listening to someone bleat on about their latest 280+ yard drive that actually went about 230-240.

Lasering the bin next to the tee you've just played from fair shuts them up...

Me too, after a thread on here have half shots for 40 to 90 yards and laser is important part of those now
