There have been a few discussions regarding distance gaps and how many wedges people carry. I currently have 4 wedges in my bag and am considering taking the 60* lob wedge out in favour of another hybrid.

The reason is I have a Driver, 3 Wood, 2 Hybrid 18* and then I jump to a 4 iron. The problem I have is on longer par 4's after I hit a Driver. For my 2nd shot I am starting to hit my hybrid too long & through the greens but the 4 iron is not always enough. I was thinking about getting a 3 Hybrid of about 20*.

Do you guys think this would fill the gap between my 2 Hybrid and 4 iron? :D

2 Hybrid = 190 yards
4 iron = 165 (can't seem to get the timing quite right!)

Thanks.

taken from a previous issue of GM, these are their cross-ref stats for irons/woods/hybrids.

Hybrid Wood Iron

14-16 * 3w 1 Iron
17-19* 5w 2 Iron
20-21* 7w 3 Iron
22-24* 9w 4 Iron
25-27* 11w 5 Iron

you seem to have everything covered other than the 20-21* Hybrid/7wood/3iron option.

it probably wont improve your overall scores. How about just changing the hybrid for a 3 rather than adding a second and keep the wedge?

Thanks. That may be something to think about. I am playing tomorrow so I will make a mental note of how often I could use a 3 hybrid to better effect than the 2 hybrid I currently have and also how often I use my lob wedge.

Thanks that is a useful table.
