i played a fantastic round today but on a par 3 hole as i was set up for my shot a guy from the hold before strolls along in front of me in my line of sight on his phone looking for his ball, his looks up and makes i contact and should of sensed me saying MOVE out of the way but he don't and he carry's on so set u again and think sod it he must want me to hit with my shinny new srixon but now in my head i felt i was gonna duff it and guess what ? i did and his still mopping around looking for his ball. i so wanted him to tell him what the hell does he think his doing. after the duff shot i manage to chip to about 5 foot and putt for par but then on the next tee i was in mid swing with my driver and he starts shouting out ............... becuase he duffed his tee shot.
what a ****

At the risk of a forum backlash, I would have walked back to him and rammed a golf ball down his throat. I bloody hate clever sods who make a point of being an arse and would be quite happy starting a brawl with such a "ball" end

lol, felt the same. i suppose if was playing bad then i would of been in a stinking mood and most likely went over and had a few words but i just wanted to keep my round going.

absolutely ridiculous that they let other people on the course while you are playing your round; even more so that some of them should move when you are setting up for your shot.

definitely a case of writing to the committee, or maybe your MP?

don't think you got the OP, The guy walked in front of the tee box while they were set up to take a shot. most people have the manners to wait and better still stay out of the players line of vision so not to distract

OK, he probably should have been more aware but do you have super human powers to make him "sense" you telling him to get out of the way. If you want him out of the way, and he is in the way, tell him or wait for him to move. If you knew he was putting you off and hit the shot anyway there's only one person to blame I'm afraid

What sort of course were you playing, private club or public? If it was a private club you can always put in a complaint about this numpty to the committee. Unfortunately, if it was a public course then there isn't really too much that can be done other than having a quiet word in his ear.

then why not engage him verbally - whether mildly, sarcastically or agressively as these all seem natural choices for some?

Hawkeye has put it better than I managed.....

yea it was a public course but i still think that he should be thinking oh **** i better move out the way incase i get hit.

considering my partner had already teed off and i was set up surly this anyone would think ' oh hang on a minute i better wait until he hits his shot' but he didn't because he was yapping on the phone. Don't get me wrong i know this happens on public course but this guy had top notch gear and looking at him you would think his knows what his doing.

Im sure if this happened to 99% players on here then they wont be happy either. one of the main reasons i didn't say anything to him was im known to have a very short temper with people who f and blind at me and i wouldnt take it nicely so for me not to feel like this i have to not get in the situation and i dont want to be known as a dick on the golf course.

The fact he is on the 'phone says enough for me...

Don't get me wrong, they guy was clearly a ****, however, we've all encountered people like that and we tell them to get out of the way, we don't hit a shot knowing we are being distracted by them and then lame them for distracting us

Have you ever played Mitcham GC? It's on common land so we used to get dog walkers galore bimbling about.
You'd arrive on the tee box, check the fairway was clear, go through your pre shot routine, swing and hit the ball. As the ball was in mid air some numpty walking Rover would amble out onto the fairway. They didn't understand the call of 'fore'. We had so many near misses.
It was just one of the nuances of that particular course. It was annoying but we learnt to deal with it.

One of the aspects of golf that every golfer has to learn to deal with is the occasional poor behaviour of fellow golfers. There's no point in getting bent out of shape. In the same way you have to learn to forget a bad hole, you've just got to do the same with poor behaviour. It's hard but it has to be done. If you feel really strongly then write to your committee.

For Mitcham substitute Wimbledon. On Wimbledon Common not only did you have the dog walkers who all knew they had public right of way and so would insist on walking their dogs the entire length of a hole "because they could" but you also had the joker which were the horses trotting out from behind the gorse on some holes either in mid swing or as you about to get ready to hit.

With regards the OP the guy was totally out of order for a) being on his phone and b) just walking onto another hole without stopping first. I'm often on parts of the course I shouldn't be on but I always have the courtesy to go as close to the hole my ball is lying on and then stop and wait for the oncoming golfers to play unless they wave me ahead to recover and move on.

I would have had words with the guy. Sometimes these idiots just don't know they've made a tit of themselves. Even if he did know he needs pulling up about his behaviour because someone might just go ahead and do what you threatened to do

One of Ricky F's ones with the extra wide brim. That would teach him!

Sounds like a bad case of poor ettiquette. It's like when someone walks in to the fairway you are playing to play a ball when ettiquette dictates they should wait until those playing on the correct fairway have either waved you on or played thier shots first.

according to BLUEWOLF, papyt is a member of my new club and if it is the same guy i think it is by asking around he is a bit of a character,he is a boxing coach or something like that and according to some a great guy and the life and soul of the party to others he is a trouble maker and loudmouth,he is a single h/c player and by all accounts pretty good, not met him yet as i think he is in hospital but cant wait to see what he is really like.
