Saw this story of Lee Janzen being disqualified for wearing metal spikes...

Anyone wearing metal spikes around here?

Incidentally, the official talks about the 'one ball rule' and DMDs not being permitted on the qualifiers for US Open.
So had to look up the 'one ball condition' on the USGA website: "One Ball Condition." When this condition is adopted, players are required to use the same brand and type of golf ball throughout the stipulated round.

I have nails in my winter shoes, a lot of steep slopes on my course and I feel there is less chance of going on my ass:)

The ball rule has been about for years. DMD during a qualifier, Im not suprised they are banned if you can't use them in the US open then why would you expect to use them in one of the tributary competitions?

The spike rule is harsh, same in F1, why cant the teams use their own tyre manufacturers? Surely it is in the interests of the sports that the competitors do as well as they possibly can.

The rules are set up well beforehand.

Everyone gets a copy of the rules.

You choose whether you read them and adhere to them.

He's a silly man for not reading them (or his team not reading them)

It's a non story..........or it should be.

It might sound stupid but it is a rule, he broke it. The One ball condition is normal for elite events, as is the banning of DMDs. Move along please, nothing to see here.

he tweeted himself he was stupid for not reading the email the day before the event. and was more concerned with the lack of game in his 75 than the DQ.

they make such a mess of greens its not even funny. can you replace metal spikes with soft ones easily ? does footjoy soft spike fit old footjoy metal spiked shoes?

cool. I wore metal spikes at my old club at easter and was shocked at how much of the mess they made of the greens. never again!

they make such a mess of greens its not even funny.

Not as much of a mess as some of the new shoes with pods do in winter when they clog up, and nowhere near as much of a mess as a membership that is too idle to repair their pitch marks. I'll carry on wearing mine (and repairing mine and a few other's pitch marks).

Surprised to hear that people still wear metal spikes, haven't seen them in a very long time, thankfully.

Don't miss that clack-clack one bit

Part of the game that I miss, the spikes on gravel, the chattering of irons in the bag, the sound of a properly struck shot, golf is, or was, a wonderful aural experience.

I still have a pair of shoes with metal spikes. They aren't banned at my club and I use them is it is overly wet or frosty. If the players get a copy of the rules in advance then he is naïve at best
