Dispersion - I don't get it

Often read posts on here where people say that their dispersion with X club was better than Y club. OK, that's fine but surely the only causes can be a) their swing or b) crap shaft in one of the clubs?

I have a top end shaft in my driver so if I tested a super whizzy new driver like an Epic and it had better dispersion then I would either be swinging badly with mine or very hacked off with my expensive shaft!

Why did you get your top end shaft?

The club is the sum of the parts, not just how much money they can eek out of people for shafts.

Sometimes a club just matches swing with not much more explanation than "it just works".

More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.

LOL Why not just post in the thread I made  I honestly don't know why- yes my driving isn't the best and is something I continue to work on with my pro but surely if you can get more forgiveness from one club/shaft combination over another and can afford to change then why wouldn't you? It doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying to improve my driving.

Not hacked off at all just happy to get the help... but as I said before it could well be a honeymoon period... I'm not expecting miracles from the new epic

me either, i don't think ive ever bought a club because of dispersion, going further, better ball flight and feel yes... dispersion no.

I would have agreed with you until I tried replacing the original adams tight lies fairway woods I play with, with the newer Adams Ti version. My strike isn't great normally so can hit toe, middle or heel and normal flight is straight or fade. With the new Ti fairway woods, the dispersion was a lot worse and it often caused a big draw or fade(like 30 odd yards and never knew which was coming and I almost never hit a draw with any club, I am a fader). Went back to the original woods and problems went away. Tried it a couple of times and the Ti ones are in the shed now as gave up with them! Shame as love the sound off the face and the shaft in them.

Over the 3-4 months I played with them, I even got Adam to have a hit with them, as his strike is better than mine and he had the similar problems but not so bad.

yes.

if i'm sending it all over the place, its not going to be the club, but the numpty on then end of it

i agree. dispersion down to the difference in shaft is minimal. it rubs on me when people say "i was spraying it all over the place with that shaft"

if you are missing big then it isn't the shaft. if have seen with my own eyes the difference kick point and torque make to dispersion and its not much

When I went to Ping HQ to get fitted for some new clubs/ irons. I had booked an hours slot. It does not take an hour, so after 30 mins the guy had a look at a tour shaft I had purchased. I had previously hit a driver with one in and it just felt better.

I was hitting the ball really well that day.
Long story short was that the distance with the tour shaft was 12 yd further carry, better flight but the dispersion was excellent, even with a wayward drive.
With the stock shaft it was not as good. The fact the tour shaft is shorter gives a little bit more control.
For someone playing off 21, what's the point of having one or two shots off the tee and your second shot is knobbing it out sideways coz your in the rough.
dispertion for some is massive especially if you are not a big hitter.

It was the same for the iron fitting, the shafts that suited me were the ones that went as far as others but the final clincher was that the dispertion is better. It seems that dispertion is not an issue until you are trying to hit a green.

but its not going in the cabbage because of the club is it, its a bad swing and i would guess as a 21 handicap its more about bad swings than dispersion?
