Disney-Florida

If you want something different for half a day, Gatorland was interesting. Amazing to see just how far an alligator can get out of the water, and just how fast a rattlesnake strikes. They are even doing a trainer for a day ticket now, you too can get up close & personal with an alligator...... Personally I'd be outside the fences.

As stated in my earlier post I went there in 92 and have to say the highlight for me was when we were eating in one of the Disney restaurants. Just enjoying the food, then suddenly, all the characters walked in. The kids faces were just magical to watch. They went round to every table and interacted with the kids - and the parents! The characters were so good - they must be specially chosen and even had me believing at times :p:

I understand now though, that there is a charge for this, which I think is a shame when you think how much folk spend on Disney and their holiday.

Have some great photos of me there in 2002 with Goofy trying to get a reaction and me clearly hungover as hell

Been a few times over the last 15 years.

We generally arrange the flights ourselves, having flown with United Glasgow - Newark and on to Orlando International. This is a good option as they fly almost every day of the week. To get best prices you tend to have to book soon after the flights go on sale. The daily flights allow you to tailor the length of your holiday. We are flying this year with Thomas Cook, Glasgow to Orlando International, will see how that goes, it is a shorter overall flight time and was actually cheaper.

The car hire we just check the main suppliers online and book from there. Normally book Dollar, but recently each time we have tried to get our car the Thrifty desk next to Dollar has been empty !! The platinum cover Dollar offer covers extra driver and a full tank to start with and return empty. Just ignore any offers the guys at the desk offer as they are on commission to upgrade you, but just stand your ground.

We have always stayed in villas, in the Kissimmee area and always within 20 minutes from Disney gates. Again just book villas through websites, vr 360 gives good views of the villas. You very rarely get a poor villa, and they can be suprisingly reasonable as well.

Pretty much DIY holiday but well worth it.

No charge as such just that the meals in the places where there is character dining will usually be dearer. Also best to make a reservation (ADR) for them.

Definately get reading thedibb.co.uk and plan would be my advise. Also The Brits Guide to Disney is a good read.

I'm going in may. Couldn't give you any advice on Florida as iv never been before, but if you buy the one pass I think it's called, you get free golf on disneys oak trail golf course.

It's always worth looking at buying your park tickets before you go, Travel Republic are good and often have decent deals. Our favourite is a two week ticket for Universal and Islands of adventure and wet and wild for 14 days. Gives you great flexibility to go in early and jump out after lunch as it is staring to get busy,
