Dilemma on a travel bag..

Have a US trip coming up early autumn, so researching travel bags. Went down to the local AG store and was not very impressed by the Callaway one. It felt a bit like a cheap cover with a bit of foam thrown in.

I must say it is a bit unnerving trying to decide on a travel bag. A bit like buying insurance; never know what is good or bad or if it will work.

The only decent comparison of top end golf bags is the GOlf Digest 2012 Hot list (unfort they dont seem to have a 2013 edition yet).

CLUB GLOVE seem to come up a fair few times, but struggled to find one in the UK. Until I stumbled on this

Any idea if clubhousegolf.co.uk is genuine. This is tempting as it is nearly half the price and almost equal to the others that I am looking at. Though I dont know if this is going to be too big for my stand bag and hence defeat the purpose of having it in the first place.

How does one decide? Any insurance salesmen out there?

Clubhousegolf.co.uk are excellent.

I can't help with travel bags, I have a cheap one given to me by my father in law, into which I have fashioned a rigid cardboard top to protect the clubs.

you get the one that you are confident will do what you are buying it for - simples.

I bought twice after thinking I could get one cheaper that would do the job :( my current one is similar to the ones you have shown but is either clevland or srixon branded (haven't used for a bit).

They should last you a lifetime - if you can afford to wear one out you aren't concerned about the cost of a bag!

The Titleist Club Golf travel bag is excellent. It should be available from any Titleist stockist.

Yeah, i am in favor of the Club Golf.. though might end up with the Small Wheeled one due to the finances (i have a few AG vouchers left)

I have the taylor made one you linked to, and can recommend it. I paid less than half of what AG want for it though.

Where did u get it from? Is that the Player bag (as in the link) or the TM Performance bag (which is about 50 quid cheaper)

make sure the material is thick as it will be thrown around by baggage handlers...allegedly.... also ensure the zip ends can take small padlocks or you might find after you open the bag in the hotel your prized putter is missing!

Clubhousegolf.co.uk are very good.

I have a Sunmountain travel bag which I really like. It's well padded at the top, separate shoe pocket and has a strap to prevent the bag twisting, which seems to match most of the others above. Cost me £50, and there's nowt wrong with it thus far!

The Titleist one looks very heavy, so that may affect your weight allowance (23kg with BA, but that's one of the most generous on the market).

I always stick a broom handle that is longer than the driver into the golf bag (not the travel bag), to try to protect the longest club, and wrap the towel around the shafts to restrict movement.

a bag with 14 clubs, shoes and balls and a few jumpers etc all padded in my thick padded flight bag weighed in at BA at 14kgs, useful to know as I thought it would be heavier.

Apparently if flying to the US, the TSA bods at the airport will cut it open, take a few practice swings and (possibly) put it back
Anyone knows where to get TSA compliant padlocks in the UK?

The club gloves are excellent and I gave used one many times without ever using a broom handle or the like. Some of the branded covers may be based on club gloves.

You wouldn't want to arrive at Medinah with an inferior bag cover.

Agree, esp when I open these and take out my Dunlop sticks on the first tee

I wonder if I will find any Dunlop/Donnay balls in the rough at Medinah...

Had the TM Players version. Very good and my TM R11 carry bag fitted in snugly.

Cool.. but the cheapest I can see 145 quid... In that case, I can stretch to 159 and get the Titelist Club golf - seems like the bees knees

CliveW.. is it too big?? If my regular size Ogio stand bag disappears inside this, then will defeat the purpose
I have used it to carry my Titleist Lightweight stand bag and it is fine. There are internal straps to hold everything in place. I have also carried my Powakaddy cart bag without any issues. My previous travel bag lasted two journeys whilst the Titleist one has crossed the Atlantic half a dozen times, and has been to Portugal and Tenerife on numerous occasions.
