Dilema - does the new Chelsea manager join the pension scheme?

I think Raffa could do well at Chelsea personally.

If he can win the crowd over and get Torres firing again who knows.

Problem is, especially with Chelsea, when a new manager comes to a club he tries to shift out the dead wood from the old regime. At Chelsea, this happens yearly

The team hasn't settled properly since Jose Mourinho left.

Im in the other camp Gareth , i think he is nuts to take the job & they are nuts to give it to him being honest , im sure the pool boys will be in a better position to comment on RB as a manager ,
It seems obvious to me anyhow Abramovich is waiting on Pep to decide what he wants to do , i also think he would be nuts to take the chelsea job ..

Chelsea need the owner to realise its time to build for the future & try dominate that way , rather than keep throwing money at it .. i do worry if RA gets bored trying to buy further success he might just pull the pluug & go try buy success somewhere else ..

I could also be 100% wrong on all the above tho ..

More like Man City - there will be a vacancy there within a few days"

I'm more inclined to see him at Arsenal - As far as I'm aware Wenger's contract finishes in 2014 which fits in nicely with when Guardiola wants his sabbatical to end - if he could bring David Dein back that'd be great too and we might have a team worth watching again!

Much as I would love that I just don't think we could afford him, or give him the transfer kitty that would be needed to secure his services. The longevity that has been afforded to Wenger would be attractive, as would the prevailing footballing philosophy of recent years, but would it be enough, I don't think so.

Man City are too similar to Chelsea imo, johnny come lately flashing the cash. I think Pep would go for the relative stability of Man Utd with a track record of having faith in the manager and year on year big spending, allowing him to build over time.

As pool fan, Rafa to Chelsea is a great move for him. I dread to think of the pay cheques he will get, and its zero pressure really, he only has to do 6 months.. think of it as a nice boost to the retirement fund. If it goes tits up, no biggie, everyone in football knows its a poisoned chalice.. if he does well, the world is his oyster!

This IS his pension scheme!
I think the call went something like this.
"Hey Rafa pop in, sort us out for 6 months, get Torres playing well would ya and I'll sort you out £20M"
"Hokay Senor Abramsiswitch I can do dat for you. I think!"

100% agree but i would include Arsenal as a definate option in the equation along with UTD ..

Still hold out hope that there is someone at the top of the game who isn't completely money obsessed/driven....... Yeah you're probably right the filth it is then!

Its a win win situation for Rafa. If he does well he puts himself back in the shop window for other lucrative managerial jobs. Do badly then hes had an other good payday before dissaperaing to the UAE or China.

Rafa is on a hiding to nothing. He won't have the remit to drop the likes of Torres (which was apparently what cost RDM the job) won't have the backing of the likes of Terry and won't be taken on once Abramovich's briefcase full of bullion clears JFK and head towards chez Pep in New York
