So after playing only 9 hole course since I started playing Golf in November, I thought today I want to start getting some experience in of full courses.

I did 18 holes at Chestfield Golf Club in Chestfield, near Whitstable, Kent.

I was not disappointed, it is a lovely course and luckily for me it was quite quiet today, there was no one playing behind me so I was able to slow down and relax while playing.

At first I wasn't relaxed though, I was told in the Pro shop when I picked up my score card that someone was booked on behind me so I played the first few holes quite rushed hoping to not get in anyones way and I was also quite anxious about playing an 18 hole course that I played the first three holes really really badly. As I started the fourth hole I realised that no one was behind me, they must have just not pitched up, and I started slowing down.

I was nervous still with my driving on the longer holes so used less power than I've been practicing with at the range but think I was still getting around the 140 - 150yd mark (I am quite bad at guessing distance so could be way off), my iron play was ok, I miss hit a few and also sent a few to the left and right but for the most part it was OK. I still think my putting is one of the stronger parts of my game.

In the end over the entire 18 holes I ended up shooting 111 and only lost 1 ball off the tee, it's a par 70 course. (not sure if that's bad or not, I'm very satisfied when I tallied up my scores)

Really really enjoyed it though, had an absolute blast, definitely one for consideration for a home club.

Good effort mate

Homer will be along in a minute flogging NGT

You'll be off single figs by Dec :)

111 for your first 18 hole round is a decent performance! (I think my first full 18 was 120+!) More than anything cos tiredness would probably have had an effect over the last half a dozen holes.

Fair play to you, you'll soon be hooked! (If you're not already!)

Thanks guys, I have put a lot of effort in at the range and my lessons helped a lot I think, I'm still trying to take how I play on the range to the course.

One thing for sure though, I am investing in a decent pair of shoes (seen some FootJoys I like the look of), I've have a pair of Dunlop's that I got from SportsDirect and they killed my feet!! I was so happy to see the hut at the 13th tee and just sit down for a while and eat my sandwich with a hot chocolate!

Did you take a flask? What was in the sarnies? Sounds very civilised.

My winter league partner brings sausage and Tabasco sarnies... Very tasty:thup:

Good shout about the shoes, those dunlops will cripple you, especially on the summer when your feet sweat:o

Not too bad for your first 18 holes!

Well done.

Yes, I always take a travel mug of coffee when I play (which I usually finish after 3 or 4 holes) but this course had a little hut that sold hot chocolates and things and my wife made me a chicken and mayo roll.

Now that I'm going to be playing more 18 hole courses I think packing a sandwhich is going to be a good move.

I might start taking a whole picnic, maybe including rotisserie chicken, I was starving after 18 today:o

I bought my first set of proper golf waterproofs from chestfield pro shop. Sam Torrance Ceres if I remember correctly.

I think you've got good potential there. Add a tot of whisky to the coffee and you'll play better (or not care about playing worse)

Great start! And the first of many to come...

I'm pretty close to you, in Faversham & play at westgate, if you ever fancy a round please feel free to give me a shout!

111 for your first round playing 18 holes is not to bad, far better than my first 18, don't worry to much about other players behind you you will soon get used to it.

Thats all that really matters, good on you

Very well done and glad you enjoyed it. (That's the main thing)
Next time out, try and concentrate on not playing those potentially destructive shots. Drives, thinned chips with a 60* wedge etc. Keep it simple, short , and in play and your scores will come down.
Great effort first time out though. My first eighteen all those years ago was more akin to a cricket score!

Don't forget that guy and his three goals method too! The moment someone post they are trying to break 100...

Sooooooo predictable!

I'd forgotten about him... What was his name?? Chemistry kid ?? Geology guy???

It seems biology was his specialist subject given recent events.... Congrats mate;)
