GM Massiv, whats everyone's thoughts pls.....

Considering changing my Titleist CB710's for the newer 716's....... and many of these are available with S300 shafts, whereas I'm used to using R300's in my current set.

At 55, with a smooth tempo rather than fast swing, would peeps say the stiffer S300's would be a bad move perhaps ?

None I can try locally that I'm aware of, so buying blind and hence a little cautious.

I guess I could order New with R300, but just hoped to save a little by buying slightly used ! (lots seem to change clubs far more regularly than I !!)

Cheers

Maybe buy a cheap single 6 iron on eBay with the S300 in and give it a go against your current club....

Or an ex-demo club from a fellow forumer; I've got an MP 58 6 iron with an S300 in it that I have no further use for, says 1/2" over and 2 degrees up on the label & the grip is past its best but probably enough life for your purposes, but if you want it it's yours for the price of the postage.

Thats very kind of you, much appreciated. But I think I'm going to find somewhere close thats a Titleist fitting centre and try a few different shafts perhaps, there's such a bewildering array available, just might be worth putting the effort in at my age,
especially if I'm going to keep them a while as I have with my current irons. Thx again.

I think Express Golf in Bradford are official Titliest fitters. Really good shop and really nice guys, great set up. Give them a ring and check.

At 53, I replaced my clubs a couple of months back. Went from Ping G15 with regular flex shafts to Callaway Apex with S300 XP95 shafts. They feel lighter than the previous clubs, and fly a country mile further. Was very suprised to be honest, in all fitting tests I've ever had previously, I've always been in the regular flex range, but according to swing speed, now seem to be top end of stiff. I don't feel like I'm swinging harder or faster, but swing speed is definitely up. Maybe better to go get your swing checked, then make a decision after that. For what it's worth, at a similar age, I really like the S300 :)

Well thats put a spanner in the works !! Dohhh.........

Of course, there are many incarnations of "S300"
Dynamic Gold is the standard - heavy
Then you've got XP in various weights, SL, HL and probably a few more too....
It's become a minefield.

I moved from R300 to S300.

Not a great deal of difference in performance for me. The do feel a lot more stable for me though as I have quite a quick transition.

If it helps I swing a 7 iron at 80MPH.

No problem, if you change your mind PM me.

Shaft flex is very difficult to compare between brands. I was fitted earlier in the year, two shafts were almost identical in stats, the KBS was a stiff, the Nippon was a regular and the Nippon felt stiffer than the KBS; go figure!

Traditionally, S300s will be a bit shorter, but a bit straighter than R300s. There's actually very little difference (about 3 gms) in weight between them, but S300 will FEEL a bit heavier!

Obviously, it's best if you try them but, unless you are already a short hitter, I'm pretty sure that it will only take a round or so to get comfortable with the S300s.

I'm nearly 64 and use S300s, though 7i only goes 140, sometimes in the right direction  with my 'smooth' swing. I've always preferred heavier shafts, perhaps a throwback to using a 30+oz hockey stick - as a forward/penalty corner/stroke taker!
