Some news of Dewstow Golf Course in South East Wales....
Was a thriving 36 hole complex for the past 25 years or so... they have suffered from under investment and indeed closed one of the 18s in 2014.
The club was sold at the end of last year, the new owners moved the golfers out of the clubhouse and into the Golf Academy building. The are converting the clubhouse into alternative use, rumours about what vary.
Many members left at this point as there was no reduction in subs and no evidence of any investment in the remaining course, which has been deteriorating for some years
They have also leased the course back to the original owners to see out the membership year. (presumably)
The new owners have not written to the membership about the future so the assumption is that there isn't one. Sad to see a formerly thriving club close. Many remaining members have now moved to new clubs in the absence of any communication about April onwards..
Another golf boom club gone...Alice Springs near Usk gone too. Failure to maintain a good standard of facility coupled with over supply of courses? Natural selection perhaps.
Either way, very sad to see. With some decent green keeping, the tree lined layout could have been a real gem. An older member who has moved to our club told me that 10 years ago, if you didn't book Sunday lunch a month in advance you didn't get in... When we moved to the area 7 years ago, you could see the clubhouse needed a lick of paint and a good clean up... the course was being kept up either.
