With the demise of Peter Quinn and Homeland, need something good to watch on a Sunday night. Beowolf is a poor man's Tame of thrones, but Deutschland 83 turns out to be rather good. Find myself liking it a lot, maybe because I've still got the theme tune on 12 inch vinyl tucked away in the garage.

Anyone else watching?

Yes.
I am and enjoying it.
And interesting take on an era I lived through but without being aware of the bigger picture.
Certainly a different style to some of the Scandinavian series.

got it taped (or what ever that is called these days) not watched it yet, looking forward to it.

As for Beowolf, what a pile of crap, watched the 2nd episode last night, not sure i will be bothering with the next one

Very much enjoying it. Good insight into the Stasi years and a glorious reminder of how paranoid those times were. Roll on next Sunday evening..

Fell asleep for the last 15 mins of last night's episode. Will stick it out for a few more. Hid says she is really enjoying it. Tbc for me.

I watched the first episode last week and really liked it, although the story seemed to move a lot quicker than I was expecting. I've got last nights recorded.

If you haven't already seen it I'd recommend a film called 'The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen)'. Its a German subtitled film but a very good story about the Stasi spying on the East German citizens.

Thanks, Berger. Find that period of history really fascinating so will check that out

If you go for movies about the old GDR then 'Sonnenallee' is in the same tone as Good Bye Lenin, was mad roughly around the same time, but is playing in the GDR rather than after the reunification.

So far I like Deutschland 83. A lot of childhood memories in terms of music, stuff they have standing around, cars on the road, ...

I've just watched 2 episodes that I recorded, third is on tonight.
Not too bad, but seems a bit far fetched by not only assuming the identity of someone but also to be in such a high position of trust.
However I enjoy the nostalgia of it all, the high tension and anxiety of the Cold War, the paranoia and of course the fantastic 80's music.
Gonna stick with it
