Where can I find details of any 2012 events that clubs might be holding for next year which could let me get some cheap golf on decent courses?

As said, Golf Central is the top source for Opens outside the wee yellow book. Although the exact dates won't be posted until around the new year you can sort of guess from this years dates when they will be as most clubs hold their Open the same weekend every year.

A lot of opens aren't listed on Golf Central.
Golf Empire almost has them all.
