If you were able to design a single hole on a course that you would eventually get to play, how would it be?

What Length / par would it be
Where would be the tee boxes - i.e. different location for the medal tees perhaps, elevated or at the bottom of a hill, across a sweeping valley?
Carry to fairway?
Any hazards?
Shape and elevation green? Flat or underlating?
Fairways lined with trees, out of bounds, water, straight, harsh dog legs, blind greens etc etc.

Come on, design your own hole! :)

550 yard par 5 from white tee. elevated tee box by at least 20ft. straight and flat for about 300 yards with huge pine trees to left and a lake/river to the right. dogleg left approx 30degrees (not too harsh) with 250yrd to go, uphill to another elevated green with decent deep bunkers left and right and long. nice big green with multiple tiers to allow for a change. It would also be the 18th to allow for a gallery finish coming up the hill.

That's you 3 off the tee then :smirk:

18th at Sawgrass?

I'm giving my design some thought and can't decide between a windmill or a clown's mouth

Probably a medium to long par 4, about 420 yards. Tees on top of the hill. White tees have to drive through a corridor of trees, yellow tees at the exit of the tees.
Tee shot heads down to the bottom of the hill, so you can see it land (white tees raised slightly to allow this). It's nice to have the satisfaction of hitting a good drive, and seeing it roll out. So I'm told!
No particularly crazy hazards for the tee shot, maybe OOB left, and a couple of cuts of rough on the right. Enough to find your ball but still be a hindrance.

Rest of the hole is flat, green protected at the front by a dry moat, and a big bunker long to catch any wild shots. Left and right fairly alright run off areas, maybe sloping away from the green.

I have designed a par 3 on the beach using sand. It can play between 130 and 210 yards using 5 tee boxes, 3 to the left of e middle of the green and 2 to the right. The large kidney shaped green would have 3 distinct tiers withe the lowest being on the front right portion of the green, the highest part of the green would be on the middle of the kidney and the middle height tier would be on the back left of the kidney. This green would place a premium on hitting the correct lengths. There would be a pot bunker in the hollow of the kidney which would suck in weaker shots. The green would have some pretty severe run off areas and a further pot bunker at the back which would gather those long shots. This would of course be a links course.

Possibly the most unique hole I've ever played is a par 3 on the Montgomerie course in Dubai. The green is in a massive open area and surrounded by bunkers and water but there are tees 360 degrees all the way round it so you can come in from any angle and different distances. The tees are moved daily to provide variation.

Not just you Homer. Think about it all the time lol. Currently looking to buy a house and determined to get one with enough garden for a practice green and preferably a few practice bunkers as well!

My hole would be.
Par three 110 to centre area of green from whites. Ravine between tee and green requiring 95 yards carry. Kidney shaped 10 yards wide 15 deep green (10 a narrow section) sloping towards the front. Relatively flat. Cliff edge left of green by 5 yards and bail out area to the right with a bunker. Rough 1 yard from back of green. Tee box 6ft above level of the green. 5 yards variation for each tee position going forward, 20 yards back for the blacks.

I see it as a hole that would make you feel really good when you get it spot on. A bit of ego boost from the increased possibility of back spin due to the slope of the green and a yardage promoting use of a club more likely to generate said spin. Admit it. For most of us a little bit of backspin from a well struck shot makes you feel like a pro. Play it right and even a hacker like me would walk off feeling like they'd done something special. Play it wrong and you'd be in major doo doo.

I would go for a nice flat wide open 400 yard hole with no trouble anywhere to give all the forummers a chance to drive the green
