Digging a hole for myself
Medal Winner
Well, had a lesson with a "new" pro today and learnt something new and genuinely helpful. He managed to show me how to correct my usual push right very simply and effectively. Just need to get it bedded in now through some practice!
Then went off to play my nearest course. Had a really good time, and although I left the big dog safely tethered (am now convincedthat I cannot use it on the range consistently, therefore should not try to use it on the course!) but got my #3 and #5 working well. Mostly pretty straight, and long enough for me (225/230 yds and 210yds respectively).
Scored 104 overall. Very pleased given my best previously were all in the 115-118 bracket. As I've only been playing seriously since Christmas, I'm happy with the score, but more so with the marked improvement since I played a week or so ago. Just about getting the feeling that things are dropping into place.
As for improvement - I really need to focus on my short game. Some good chips and pitches today, but still patchy. Not that it will be a cure, but thinking of adding to my armoury with a gap wedge and possibly lob wedge too. There were occassions today when I could have done with both (including a really nasty incident trying to get out of a deep bunker with an "opened" sand wedge that was not pretty!). Putting was better today (not too many three putts, and just one 4). Also was hitting my irons quite well - if there hadn't been such a wind blowing, then I think I would have carved off another couple of shots easily, so breaking 100 should be on the cards soon.
Fingers crossed!
