Hello all,

Spending a few days over Christmas in Edinburgh with the fam and on the way out on the 27th I was hoping to get an early round in local and wondered if anybody had any suggestions?? I can take advantage of the winter green fees (albeit i don't want to play off mats)

Love to hear from you with any pointers

Cheers

I think most if not all Edinburgh courses will be on mats at the moment. Check out duddingston or mortonhall for good courses the in city.

Your best bet, if you have transport, is probably to head down the coast for one of the East Lothian links. Gullane as already mentioned, craigielaw, kilspindie are all 30ish minutes drive from town. Other options too..... Check out this link

Geography not you strong point then?

As said Gullane is just a wee jaunt down the coast,Dunbar was in cracking nick a couple weeks back and is a half hour away.Best to head to the coast I would say.

Is It yours then , course is a course

Ignore the suggestion to travel to St Andrews, that's just stupid.

Gullane is a good idea or maybe even Kings Acre, their worth trying but I'm not sure about the use of mats. Also, there's no harm in telling them that your on your own and they may help putting you in a game. Good luck

North Berwick is only a stone's throw further on from Gullane.

I've not played it but I hear it's an excellent course... and it looks lovely when I've walked across it down to the beach.

Edit - unfortunately it's mats. :-(

It is an excellent course, worth checking out the Glen which is the oposite side of north berwick. Not as good as the West but good no the less. As suggested Gullane defo worth a look any of the courses. Not played Dunbar yet but its on the list to play, hopefully get a game there in January.

I booked Gullane, No2. Couldn't get on to No1 until gone 10:30am and i can't be out that long. If anybody wishes to join would be good to have a playing partner....
Thanks for the feedback!! Great to have so much choice

Its Dec , winter and Scotland what do you expect , catch a flight to spain or the Algarve if you want summer type conditions , any links course will be fine if you don't mind a wee drive

I'm glad you got sorted, I was tempted to sort you out with a game at Dunbar but I'm already down for a game that day at another course.

You will enjoy G2, in my opinion it's just as good as G1.

Wouldnt go that far as to say 2 is as good as 1 but thats not doing 2 a disservice. Its a cracking course but 1 is just special IMO. Green Fee on 1 would still be pretty horrendous I would think.
