Just wondering if anyone has played, or been a member at this course.

In my continuing quest to join a club with more emphasis on inclusion, rather than my current clubs focus on select cliques and age groups, I have been told to play this course as it's 10 minutes from my front door, a fantastic layout, in great condition and with a lively (not God's waiting room) membership. The joining fee is acceptable (as much as they can be) and the yearly rates are competative.

So, if you've played it, what do you think? How were the members? How much was a pint of real ale? And any other information you feel would help my decision..

Cheers in advance..

Yup, at Gathurst. Just looking for somewhere a bit more suited. Gathurst is a nice course, but caters for a select few members and isn't particularly friendly to new members. Probably as much my fault as theirs as I'm not the best at integrating. I'm in no real rush to leave, as I've paid up for the rest of this year.

Played it quite a few times, had our society,s captains day there 3 out of last 5yrs and was looked after by the pro, catering staff and more importantly the bar staff:) who was actually made up with us as we had a bit of banter and laugh with her and gave the impression she wasnt overly impressed with the members.....

The course....it is a nice course, back 9 being the more interesting, its always been in great condition when ive played(always summer), BUT it does get very wet in the winter and i know some1 who was a member there last year and has left as the course was regularly closed through the winter........and not sure if its true but did hear that in the winter you had to pick from fairway and tee up in the rough:mmm:..

Im a member just round the corner at the Beacon ,its a muni but open almost all year round except when snowing:)....

Best thing is to get in touch and let them know your interested in joining and see if they will give you a reduced price round and you will see for urself what the place n course is about.....

PS.if you do join make sure you give us a shout for invite:thup:

Just joined here myself, members seem pretty relaxed. It is true that it can get wet and in winter and you have to play from rough or mats, but i am assured that come summer time the benefits of this is clear.

The two nines are very contrasting, the back probably being the more challenging (and older), if you are looking solely at the scorecard it doesn't look that long or difficult, but it is definitely a thinkers course you have to plot your way around!

If you are looking to play they will let you play at members visitor rates and reimburse you if you decide to join.

The course never seems to get busy and you can always turn up and go (outside competitions) in fact when i am playing evening rounds it is rare to see more than 10 people on the course, but there are usually 2 comps per week which are pretty well attended. They don't do 2 Fore 1/TeeOffTimes/Groupon etc and don't have that many society visit's either.

let me know if you have any questions!

Neill

Cheers Neill, that's really helpful. The winter issues are nothing new. Gathurst is exactly the same. Must be the same ground conditions for both courses. I think I will head up for a round in the next few days to see if the course suits my eye.
Cheers
