New Member, hello to all......

Played when I was a kid(up the park, tree to tree etc)and became a member 3 years ago at the club where I now live, and loving it!
It is time to broaden my horizons however as I've only played about 10 courses in total so I'm looking for suggestions for away days.
To save on people waxing lyrical about their own courses (as if golfers do that ) please make it somewhere you have enjoyed whilst playing away.

Looking forward to your suggestions....

Hi Dormie, welcome to GM forum.
Haven't played near Lanark so can't recommend courses near to you. I haven't played that many courses myself but of the ones I have in Scotland I would highly recommend the following if you fancy a drive first! - Macrihanish is wonderful, Kingsbarns is a joy, Boat of Garten is a gem, Royal Aberdeen, Newmachar Hawkshill, Inchmarlo Lairds and Cruden Bay are all excellent in NE, Nairn is good as is it's neighbour Nairn Dunbar. Gullanes courses are all good too.
For cheap and quirky try Kingussie, Dufftown, Lochgilphead. The Deeside courses where I am are good fun if a bit easier - Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne, Banchory, Peterculter, Deeside etc. all a long way from Lanark though!
St Andrews Old is a must at some stage and easy to get on in the winter.
There's a start!

Played a couple of courses down your way,
Kames Mouse Valley Course and Dalziel Park both courses are ok, Dalziel is the tougher of the two and both not too expensive.

Thanks for the replies all! A good start I think.

Birdieman I don't mind the travel as the friend I will mostly be playing with is from Arbroath, so I will be on the hoof anyway.

Steve; yes I am a member at Lanark, feel quite lucky that I ended up there for my first membership.

At the moment it looks like a toss up between the Glen and Macrihanish, both look superb......

Welcome Dormie, I was a member of Dalziel until Monday and if I were you I would avoid it at all costs. The faclilties are great but the course is always wet and muddy, even in July. I am now at Shotts and you would enjoy the course.
