Hi
Am at the moment in very hot 35c Perth.Sorry!

Been reading Dave Pelz "Short Game Bible" Very interesting and very well researched.

I came across this guy some time ago on the Golf Channel and thought his ideas were good.

Do any of you have a view on his work and his methods?

Bset wishes for the New Year to you all.

dave pelz makes proper sense but the problem with his teachings is that you need to be on the dole to have the time to do it properly! but it is all fantastic stuff!

Loved the book, and given time it does work very well, but it does take a lot of work.

Have saved many shots by getting the short game sorted, just got to work out how to hit the driver now !!

yeh you got it ..........where do we find practice ranges with markers at 20-30-40-50 etc yards etc but the 7 9 and 10.5 swings make sense but then you need to look at wedge specs..............

thanks

I got the books last year and did make a start on learning the various swing lengths and recording the distances with my wedges. To be honest though I found I was getting too bogged down out on the course and my chipping (my weakest point anyway) became too mechanical.

I have got a number of different short game lessons (pitching, chipping, bunkers and putting) booked with my coach and so I am looking forward to getting his advice and working hard. THere is a good short game area at Wexham Park in Slough (proper green with 4 flags cut and pitching in from about 20 yards off grass plus a bunker) so I may wander over there (shame its 30 minutes by car) when the weather warms and the green thaws.

To be honest, I didn't like the putting bible very much. I thought it was way too complicated (lumpy doughnuts!) and broke the swing down into too much detail. I did understand the idea of taking it back and through but again I found I lost feel after reading it because I was getting too much into how and why instead of feel

much of what peltz does makes sense logically, but tbqh it can potentially take away some natural feel some players need in their game. I have issues with some of his putting logic even though on the face of it makes extremely good sense.

And much as others have already said I'd certainly love to have time to try & put into action what he preaches.

hes good but he is complex in the sense that most of his drills require a specific site and dimentions to work effectively, add to this the fact that many people couldnt find all the time his methods require.

I think that sums up Pelz's methods up. Too complex for the average golfer to realistically go out and put into practice but with enough wisdom to be useful and provide some helpful tips and pointers.

I try to avoid instructional books. If its not working or I'm not doing it right there is no pro to correct you, lessons are by far the better way to go... if you can afford them.

I would recomend Bob Rotella books though. All about the mental game and course management. Very useful teachings in those books.

I've read both books, and really liked them. He also writes on GD (you know, the US magazine...) and everything he writes really makes sense.
I've learned one of my favourite shots, the cut lob, reading one of those articles. And it works well for me.
