Its a long shot but is there anyone on here who's a member of the above mentioned club? and have any views on it?

I live a stones throw from the course and was wondering if i should join?

Never been a member of a club but it seems silly paying out green fee's to different courses every week if i live on the doorstep of this one.

I'm not a member but I live in Darlington and play it quite a bit.

Played it at the end of August and to be honest it wasn't in the best of conditions, a lot of the tee boxes have little or no grass at all on them and it generally looked a little rough around the edges.

There's a lot of rumours going round they are struggling a bit with money and the greens had a disease on them not long ago as they were on stop with the chemical supplier.

I know they have dropped the membership to around £540 to get more members in which would point towards them struggling a bit.

You thought about maybe Blackwell GC?

I played it couple weeks ago. Wasn't in good condition. Couldn't tell difference with fairways, semi and the rough

Greens were patchy as well. Wasn't much grass on them

Cheers for the reply Bozza

I moved to the Whinfield area to tie into work (Education Village) but dont currently have a car

Golfing currently relies on hitching a lift with a mate, so by taking out a membership i only see DGC as a suitable venue.

Although after reading yours and waymans evaluation i think i best steer clear for now.

Perhaps wait until the spring of next year and see what the course looks like??

I'll wade in with the plug for Blackwell as well. I've been there since 2006 in the Stressholme and its improving year on year.

It has also just been looked at by Jonathon Gaunt who has loads of great ideas for the course. Good chance not all of them will go through but the club will continue to make the improvements.

As a final selling point, you get to play with me and Bozza..... Worth your fees alone!!! haha. If you want a round to check it out, just give one of us a shout.

I'll certainly take up the offer of playing BGGC at some point

Last time i played there was around 3 years ago when it was still Stressholme. Has the course had much work done since the take over?

I've emailed DGC today stating my intent to join a club in the Darlington Area. I think i'll have a look down the club sometime this week and see the course first hand.

Not sure where you live but have you not tried eaglescliffe or I know wood ham has just reopened and is a good layout

I dont have a car at the moment Wayman

So the only viable option (until next year at least) would be DGC as i live 2 mins walking distance away from there

Cheers though, havent played Woodham sinc it reopened...liked that course a lot, even if it was a tad damp underfoot in areas!!

Played Woodham for the first time a few months ago just after it reopened while visiting family. It's been sadly neglected and was in very poor condition however with some TLC and a bit of hard work it has the potential to become a very good course.

Cheers Davey

No drastic changes, just generally in a lot better condition (not that it was ever in that bad of condition) they have been chopping down quite a lot of dead/dying trees and planting new ones and the greens are the best condition I've seen since I joined around 4 years ago.

If you fancy a game me or Dave can sign you in as a guest for a reduced greenfee.
